    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

ALL THE DOUBT YOU'RE STANDING IN BETWEEN

“A tip about Beqanna for you: ” Wolfbane eagerly replied as soon as Jakub’s question ended. “Be ready to expect anything and everything.”

He was saying it out loud, but the advice was more a verbal reminder for himself too. Bane hadn’t expected the half-minotaur, half-horse creature to be the exact same stallion he’d fought when he’d gone to battle in Tephra… but here he was. The voice, just like Jakub had recognized, couldn’t be forgotten.

Quickly, The striped pegasus flicked his intense gaze away from the distinct wrinkles around Jakub’s eyes and settled his sights on something near the leathery rise of the black’s withers. A scar.
Something he’d left for memories sake.

“I think since you’re in my home uninvited,” He drawled, slowly looking around into the dim light of the forest fog, I’ll be the one asking questions.”
Then he turned his head and his attention back to the aggressively tall male.

“You’ve been here before?” Wolfbane more or less assumed correctly, considering Jakub was comfortable enough to ignore borders. That was unlike a heroic knight-for-Lady Leliana. Not very chivalrous. And when Jakub came, Bane assumed it was before the time he and Lepis had first sent their feelers into the quiet redwoods.

Which meant the chance of Jakub and Aten knowing each other, being familair with one another was high.
No wonder Aten had seemed speculative about why the new leaders would discourage contact with Tephra. The older, dusty gold champion had put his business and his partiality into the Jungle Kingdom for connections. “Why come back?” Bane wanted to know, still as the massive trunk beside him. “What interest does Tephra have in the Northern Territories?”
