    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    hunt or be hunted
The plague had brought a dark silence across Beqanna. Sending everyone to flee to sanctuaries of safety, to the lands outside of Beqanna, or to fend their home that was plagued with disease. Some had made it their duty to find the cure—and they had succeeded.

Rumors of the cure spread like wildfire across Beqanna, bringing life back into the once plagued land. Creating a new age. Serenity is what some would call the new age, but he would not truly. He could feel the stiffness in the air. Change was just on the horizon. It was a change he longed for more than anything. An opportunity he had waited too long for.

Sinner does not miss the rumors. He makes ever intent to be aware of the ins and outs of the events that happen within Beqanna. Even the slightest bit of gossip was something he was interested in. The little birds of the meadow would sing freely, and freely did he hear them out. There was a change in leadership within Tephra, and he would not waste a minute to meet this new queen.

The neighboring territory does not take long for the hellhound to arrive. He carries himself with pride and confidence as he reaches the border of where their two lands collide side by side within his hellhound form. Mary had recently shared the news of their newfound ties, but with a new ruler on the volcanic throne it could no longer be in place.

That was not only his reason for coming to Tephra either. If the little birds were correct, there was something more that meets to the eye to the new ruler. Sinner was all the more curious to find out exactly who the new queen was and how she came to claim the throne.

Sinner waits in the open at the border of the kingdom, his glowing gaze flickers across the volcanic territory. Carefully, he looks for any sign of movement. His presence would be quickly notice since the hound was truly never one to come to another’s door unless necessary.

I rise from my scars. nothing hurts me now.

Leliana has been able to predict much in the recent days. She has been able to keep her finger on the pulse of life that explodes within Tephra—those who come seeking a home, those friends who return, those who simply seek out the changes in power. But of everything action to occur, of every twist in the tide, the one that surprises her the most is the arrival of the hellhound on the Sylva border.

She knows of him—she has done what she can to learn of all players within the Beqanna landscape—but there is something of him that eludes her. There is a trick of the light, something that slips beneath the surface. She doesn’t trust it, but she is also learning the political ropes enough to know that within him may rest an opportunity should she truly seek to even the playing field and challenge Loess.

So she doesn’t leave him on the border for long.

Perhaps longer than Magnus would—but he always ways functional to a fault. Instead she stays behind, her depthless golden eyes peering out into Tephra—seeing through the trees to the man who rests on the border. After she makes her up her mind (the change almost imperceptible, unnoticeable save for a shift in her weight), she pulls her power close and blinks across the land, arriving suddenly before him.

“Sinner,” she pulls his name from the knowledge that seemingly rests on the tip of her tongue now. She examines him, leaving no doubt as to what she was doing, to the scrutiny that rests heavily on her gaze. After several moments pass, the air heavy, she nods. “My name is Leliana.” She is sure that he has heard of her—otherwise, why return to Tephra—but it feels right to introduce herself all the same.

“I imagine that we have things to discuss.”

In a blink of an eye, the golden-eyed queen greets him.

Sinner is not startled by the sudden appearance of the newly gifted magician. Instead, he smiles smugly at her with a curiosity lingering in his hooded gazed. The newly crowned queen speaks his name and finds no need to introduce who he is. If anything, the hound is already impressed with the Tephra queen. Sinner could get behind a ruler who is well-informed, but he also has his own intentions when it comes to knowing things too.

“Leliana,” he says with a genuine tone. The hound does not hide the growing gleam in his eyes as he looks her over for a moment. There was no need to hide his true satisfaction of the newly crowned queen. He assumed the mare would do finely in her newfound position, but her intentions for Tephra and Sylva was important to him and even more important matters needed to be discussed. Leliana was quick to the point. She had an agenda to attend to. A fire within her that was burning for something.

“We have much to discuss indeed,” he licks his lips lightly before he continues. “Before you came to the throne, Magnus had made an alliance with Sylva. I do hope we could continue to have such an arrangement. Considering our interest is within the same area.” He smirks softly, the idea of the opportunity was closer than he imagined. But he could not hide behind the shadows any longer. The hound could not wait for the pieces anymore to remain barely touching. It was time to put them together for once and all.

“Loess.” He says sternly, distaste lingers in every letter of the southern kingdom. He considers Leliana for a moment before continuing on. “We have no intention of aligning ourselves with Loess. It was never in the heart of Sylva to be beneath another either.” Sinner clearly hints at his aspiration to overtake the southern kingdom. If he were to be honest about his intentions, it would be the right timing now. “We do not approve of what Loess is doing. It has never settled with us.” But Sinner could have care less at one time or another for what they have done. It is only now that his rightful time to seek his greatest desire as of late would happen now. He would seize the opportunity by the horns now with all his strength and resources. “If we are to continue this alliance and take part in your fight against Loess, I ask that you support us in our attempt to take the southern sector of Beqanna.” But it was not a request. It was a requirement. Sinner would no longer bend the knee to the dragon-king. He would have the crown and nothing less than it now.
