    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

    "But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    My Sweet Darling {Wallace, Family}

    the words she knows the tune she hums

    It has been years since she has touched foot in beqanna, the land that she so quickly called home. One with the best memories she has, and also the most painful. She doesn't know if it is even worth returning, would her daughters still be here? The only reason to return was to see there beautiful souls, to make sure that they were okay. She worries everyday for them, Josie was her eldest, and the first to leave before the shift in the land. Josie is the one she has not spoken to the longest, and then there was Annaliese, her sweet daughter that she shared with Phaedrus. The young foal that she had to leave behind, to fend for herself, because Njenyi would destroy her.

    And lastly, not by blood, but certainly in the heart, Wallace. The sooty foal that she promised to protect and quickly found a spot in her family. The young filly that she sent off when Phaderus turned his back on them, when Njenyi came to claim his new mares. They said a quick goodbye as she tried her best to keep her from the beast, and that was the last she had seen of her sweet darlings.

    She had lurked beqanna for a few weeks, the land seemed to have shifted once again since her last time here. It did not surprise her, those faeries could do anything. She hoped to run into all three of her children, but it proved to be a harder task than she envisioned. Just when she was deterred, the rumors of a new ruler on some Island grew like wildfire. Alas, she was able to overhear the name of this new ruler, it was Wallace.

    She swells up with pride, and instead of barging into the conversation she quickly moves to find this Island. It took a lot of wrong turns, and some good luck, but she found the right direction for her daughter. The ebony mare was old now, her black pelt speckled with some grays; she may be old, but she would find Wallace. The swim was unexpected, and perhaps better for the winged equines, but she would not allow the icy water keep her from seeing her.

    As she reaches the shore, she shakes her pelt that is drenched in the salty sea. Her mind was racing, and her heart could barely contain the last moments without Wallace. Then the thoughts that Wallace was mad at her entered her mind, would she even want to see Zara? Would she banish her from her Island faster than she made it here? Either way, she had to find out for herself, she had to find Wallace.

    She waists no time, and leaves the shore behind her, as her hooves meet the lushes green earth a smile appears on her maw. Wallace was closer than ever, and now a ruler of her own territory. She could only dream of such an accomplishment, perhaps Zara was even a grandmother now? Wallace! She yells out in a hushed tone, she did not want to draw attention to herself from anyone other than her sweet darling.

    this time I’m torn, please wake me if I lose that face
    search in these eyes: there’s still fire in the darkness

    She halted with a slight frown when she heard her name. It wasn't the voice of either of her daughters, but had been distinctly female. Maybe one of Kharon's girls? Why on earth would they be looking for her? She snuffed out the immediate flash of a mother's instinctive worry. Kharon was fine. Kali and Kylin were fine. Badden was fine.

    With a drift of chilly air permeating her, she turned her mid-brown figure towards the voice. Only to draw her brows even lower in deeper confusion. She hadn't seen this woman on the island before, she was sure of it. "Hello?" she greeted uncertainly.

    Oh, right. But of course word must have spread by now that she'd led them in ousting their violent dragon company. Yes, that made sense. She straightened and turned to face the woman more squarely, letting her frown fade away to an almost foreign smile. It'd been a long time since she'd been truly happy, if she ever had.

    "Welcome. Can I help you with some--" She cut herself off and frowned again. There was definitely something familiar in the woman's face but she struggled to place from where. Not from the Island. Not from Ischia either. Or had it been? Or perhaps Pangea when she and Sabrael were stolen?

    "Do.. I know you?" It wasn't likely. The nagging sensation in the back of her mind was relentless though, as if it should be so clear and how could she possibly be missing it?
