    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The mare was with her twin foals - Praelia and Kylo - and she adored and spoiled the two daily. Praelia was showing promise in the diplomat and spy field while Kylo enjoyed sparring with others. They balanced each other, and were often found together; unless Praelia was off sneaking about to catch gossip from the older mares without them knowing.

But she'd notice, as she looked about the field, that a dark stallion was wandering alone. No mares with foals trailing with their sire's color, his build. Wonder why he's alone.. Is he just finding his way here?  Sunfall wonders, then moves towards the stallion.

"Hey! You!" She shouts at the stallion, not an ounce of the kind mare she is in her voice. She'd gone into full protective mode, and a lone stallion like him caused chills to run up her spine.

When mother's away, the children come out to play. And so he did, with the queen out of his hair. When she was out, running her ruler's errands, sniffing dimly at pretty little flowers or whatever it was she did, he felt safer venturing from his home. Not that she would seek to attack him full-on. Maybe. But it meant she was not there to watch over him, make certain he stayed in her little pocket like a good boy.

He drifted from the beach of the Coast, a black and wild sort of beauty. Untamed. A light curl twisted his damp mane in separate strands, spiraled tendrils dripping from his dark and matted tail. Sunlight danced across the droplets on his back like glitter. His head was bowed, watching the placement of his hooves in great detail, intent on the way the blades of grass bent beneath him without breaking.

He'd seen her, and the children. Studied her, analyzed her from the distance. Chose his card and laid out his hand. He placed himself where he wished, wandering with no outward purpose. The beauty spotted him and shouted at him in challenge. Protective. A good mother. His skin tingled, and he lifted his head slowly, pulled from his thoughts.

Eyes like faded denim turned to meet hers with a hint of surprise, locking her in to a calm stare. There was nothing else in the world just then, only he and her. And sweet sunshine. He carefully drew an alluring smile, gently stretching his lips kindly.

M'lady, he greeted evenly with a small sweep of his head in a respectful nod, not quite a bow. He bowed to no one. He didn't rove her figure with his gaze, he already knew the graceful curves lining her, the gentle elegance in the way her hair fell across her coat and face. A charming day to be out, don't you think? he asked with a soft tone and gentle smile.

She realized he must have been purposely wandering closer to her and then he directly approached. She didn't speak a reply, but instead grunted. She moved away from the stallion, closer to Kylo and Praelia, flicking her tail at him in a hope it would hit the stallion.

She regretfully admitted to herself he was handsome, but she steeled herself harshly on the thought that it would be worse than treason to leave her love Jedi. Worse than murdering her own parents to leave him - in fact, she silently thought she'd kill her mother if it meant keeping her love Jedi alive.Even if he hated Sunfall forever, at least he'd be alive.

After Praelia nursed for a few moments, the filly went back to her brother, nipping his mane playfully. She turned to where she could see him, a few horse lengths away, and spoke. "Don't you see I already have a family? Find someone else." She snapped at the stallion, one ear pinned and the other listening to her twin foals. One ear always listened for a noise from the twins indicating something went wrong. Always.

She ignored his pleasantries with an aggitated flick of her tail as she turned away. He was a good distance from her personal space, as was polite of strangers, and so the action whipped harmlessly in the air, nothing disturbed but her own countenance.

Confused by this odd response to kind words, he watched in plain curiosity as she moved closer to her children. Was her shout for attention not an invitation for conversation after all?

It seemed that was the case, as she began nursing one of her twins. He shrugged silently, and turned back the way he'd come. Such an intimate event was not meant for his eyes, or anyone's but her own family. And so her further confusing parting words fell at his back as he left the vicinity, walking as calmly away as he'd entered the meadow. He had no interest in speaking with temperamental females when he could easily find better company if he so wished.

The grey mare watched him leave again with regret. She had a chance for regular conversation and she'd blown it. Know she'd end up being the stranger coming towards the man.. Not the stranger towards the lady anymore. But wasn't everything backwards while the horses settled into Beqanna's new form?

She followed her foals as their playing led her towards them slowly. After Kylo came back and Praelia settled for following Kylo back to Blazing Sunfall. Sunfall started to face the stallion, still about six horse lengths away. A few fast strides at an attack gallop would do.. She thinks, and shakes herself. She knew she was a warrioress-mother with foals to protect, but he'd tried to be courteous to her! She just stood there while Kylo and Praelia went back to their mock spars.
