    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Celina accepts the compliment about her name graciously, just as she’s been taught, and it brings a bit of warmth to her chest. It’s gotten rather cold after her falls, after all, and the seagreen scales of her chest are all but covered by the downy snow. Realizing this, Celina attempts to shake herself clean, but eventually resorts to awkward contortions of her neck to brush it all away. This happens while Catcher is explaining that she doesn’t have a home, and when Celina comes back to the conversation, it is with a look of concern for the piebald mare. No home? But where are her parents? Her siblings? Surely she must have a nest to return to?

Maybe she makes her own nest, Celina decides. Daddy has made his own nest, after all, and he lets Celina share it. The white filly still hasn’t quite determined why they are no longer with Mom and Elio, but she never remembers long enough to ask either of her parents. Having to make so many new nests sounds troublesome though, the sharp-toothed girl thinks, and Catcher doesn’t even have wings with which to furnish a nest. The unicorn is turning out to be a bit of a puzzle, Celina realizes. And here she had thought the teal with the unfortunate growth was the strange one in their trio.

Speaking of the deformed Rivuline, the older mare is finally answering the question. In the ocean, she confirms, beneath the waves.

“Woah…” Celina breathes, impressed and quickly lost in imagining what such a home must be like. The clatter of falling shells brings her back, and she peers down at where they lie on the snow while Rivuline explains that she has followed a trail from the sea.

Something draws her head up sharply, some sense that something is off. Her seafoam eyes meet Rivuline’s amber ones and hold them for just a moment. Confusion flickers across her face, confusion and the odd desire to bare her own sharp teeth, but it disappears as quickly as the sense of danger, and then she is smiling again.

“Of course,” she answers, bobbing her white head. “It’s not very far away.”
