    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

She studies the trees - the wave in their bark, their height and she is reminded of another day when she had wondered about the stories these trees could tell if they spoke. She had wondered what memories they held, what scenes had played out beneath their branches.

Finally, she looks up enough far enough to see the leaves. They have turned yellow, orange, red - all raging at the loss of summer. Lilli laments the loss with them in thoughtful silence.

It's his slow shuffle she hears first, an ambling that makes her worried that whoever is approaching her is tired. A delicately-tipped ear flicks in his direction before it is followed by her concerned gaze coming to rest on him as her head turns. She takes notice of the way he wraps his wings around him and offers him what she hopes is a welcoming smile, even if that smile feels so far away. As he comes closer, etiquette makes her pull away from the supporting sapling and she disperse her weight evenly on four legs.

"Hello," she chimes at him. If his greeting is a grunt, hers is bright and silver like bells. Practiced from being out here so often these past few days.
Whatever her thoughts, she buries them away as she turns her attention on the blue tobiano stallion.

He nods and then shifts his weight before he turns his dark gaze to the sky where Lilli's blue eyes follow and her forelock gives way as her head tilts upward. "It is," she adds, "Better make the most of it. Winter will be here before we know it." The chestnut mare takes a moment to appreciate the blue of the sky, how prettily it stands out against the inferno of the autumn foliage that lingers in her peripheral vision.

There is a momentary silence before she glances back to Bronsonn, "What brings you out to the Field today?" Small talk, idyll musings but Lilliana doesn't mind.

Not that she ever does but today, its a welcome distraction from all the places that her mind asks her to wander.
