    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The Resort is an empty place in comparison to home. The beach with it’s fine white sand is empty. Tephra seethes with life and action and other youths and by comparison the quiet here is a shock. He tends to avoid the bustle but cannot help but be accustomed to its background racket. Here there are only waves and birds, palm trees, and the distant clatter of old bamboo wind chimes.

In the skeletal shadow of an old lifeguard tower, its flecking paint curling up from cracked wood, Drache stands all alone. His molten green eyes stare furiously at some distant point down the beach, muscles quivering beneath his strange opalescent hide. It should be easier to shift some part of himself, natural, but so far when he is any distance from Tephra its twice as difficult. He could go home and practice but he doesn’t want anyone to see him or to know that he can’t. Having a twin sister with exactly the same abilities adds another layer of pressure to achieve.  Irritated the boy bares a mouthful of monstrously sharp teeth and throws himself into a gallop. He skids to a stop not long after, nothing about him having changed at all. Excepting for a sheen of sweat to darken his already black skin. It bothers him that he only manages his teeth and the occasional shudder of scales. His eyes have been a dragon’s from birth, reptilian and sharp but the rest is just horse and though he feels the dragon riding him, waiting heavily in his bones he can’t call it out.

His snort ricochets off the walls of a half collapsed structure the treeline and after giving the dilapidated thing a dark look he climbs the beach to inspect it, hooves rustling against the collapsed roof thatching and dessicated palm fronds.

we’re stars now, can’t you see? the center of the world is lonely me.
