    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    [private]  Angel Eyes
    #2
This foray across the continent had been one of mixed interactions. Pangea was a world apart from what she had come to be accustomed to in Ischia. Her new island home was a peaceful, happy place. The atmosphere was one of sanctuary. Pangea had felt more brittle, as though any misstep might result in much bigger repercussions than she could ever anticipate. The little sea mare still puzzled over the visit, not sure whether she had succeeded or not. Time would tell.

At the outset of her journey, the pearly mare had decided she would take the land route home. While she had traveled by sea to get to the far side of the continent, now she wanted to take the slower way. That way she could see a bit more of the world, and speak to horses she might never have encountered otherwise. This was a personal mission of discovery, on top of her political responsibilities. What she hadn't counted on, was winter.

Winter in the ocean was not terribly different from summer in the ocean. Go far enough underwater, and the seasons have less and less effect on the scenery. Currents may change, but snow was not a thing. Aquaria had originally been enchanted by the glittering power that fell from the sky and coated everything in sight. It had been a brief love affair. The aquatic girl was now coming to the quick realization that she absolutely hated snow.

It was cold, and it stuck to her hooves and after spending so much time on the tropical island, she hadn't grown nearly enough of a coat to be comfortable. Huffing and puffing as she went, she made her way steadily westward, hoping to find some way other than constant movement to be warm. It was getting to the point she was worrying about the membrane of her mane and tail freezing off with frostbite.

She was about to give up and resign herself to becoming a horsicle when a darker ribbon of color appeared in her line of sight. A haven at last. Her gallop across the remaining distance was springy as she tried to avoid the worst of the snow drifts, ending in a dive that deposited her in the center of the semi-frozen river. Things got much, much colder for a moment, and then much more tolerable as scales replaced her hair and her tolerance to chilly water skyrocketed.

As a nereid, cold was no issue. She could dive deeply and not feel a thing. It was one of many things she loved her mother's gift for. Now clothed appropriately, she surfaced, shaking drops of icy water from her face. The are surrounding the river was much prettier now that she could appreciate it without shivering constantly. It was a landscape she could probably melt into once she left the ink dark water of the river.

She paddled steadily to the bank, pulling herself out a little less than gracefully, dripping into the semi-frozen mud at her feet. Perhaps she'd follow the river for a while. It looked like it would take her north, which wasn't on her way, but it could be fun to explore that way. She walked a few paces, before stopping again suddenly. A pale shape stood out from the even paler background. More than that, a shade of green utterly incongruous with the current landscape seemed to be integrated in it.

"Hiya!" She hollered, hoping it wasn't just a trick of the light on her eyes and that she wasn't yelling at an oddly shaped snowbank. That would be embarrassing. She'd be the only one to know, but still.

@[Demetyr] Sorry for the actual novel :l
