[Kensa]

for every tyrant, a tear for the vulnerable
in every lost soul, the bones of a miracle

It’s a crisp autumn morning, early, so early that the stars are still clinging to the indigo sky, the sun slowly highlighting the mountain peaks… but that can’t be seen from here, in this little meadow tucked into the mountains. Only a patch of stars peeks down through the rock and aspens that encircle this private place. 

Kensa is awake, but only just barely, sitting up in the dew damp grass to watch the fog of her children’s breath rising slowly from their sweet little muzzles. Well two of them. She woken to Brunhilde sneaking off but she’d only smiled sleepily and watched the flame girl disappear through the long grass and spindly trees to the path that would take her down the mountain, letting her think she’d once again gotten away unnoticed. She does not realize how like her mother she actually is. 

Star is probably awake too, but the little appaloosa girl, well Kensa would not be surprised if she would pretend to sleep just to keep from waking her mother and little brother. She is the sweetness that Kensa needed in a first child, to give her the confidence to mother the more wild Brunhilde. No need to keep up the ruse of sleep. Kensa shakes her pretty head and gets to her feet, nosing at the soft rounded backs of her curled up babes. “Good morning, darlings.” She murmurs, deciding to spend her day with the two of them.
