he laid low the warriors of old
The day had finally come for his fifth child—the call from Porcia only made it more of a reality for him.
Rome had never imagined he would have this many children. Then again, he had never imagined ever settling down and being in love with someone like Porcia. His life had changed vastly over the years, but looking back, he would never change one thing about it.
He had anticipated the birth in the coming days as spring arrived. Hoping this time the pregnancy would be easier on Porcia. She had carried twins twice now. It seemed all was well for Porcia during her pregnancy as the baby grew within her, and still appeared that way as he found the two together—mare and daughter.
A smile grows on his lips at the scene he finds the two in. Porcia is standing and the little one is still on the ground. He just made it in time to see his new daughter make her first step into the world. “Hello, my love,” he greets. Rome stands a couple feet away from Porcia and the filly. He doesn’t want to scare her from taking the chance to stand up, so he wants from a distance with a soft smile on his lips.

Otrera blinks rapidly. Big-brown eyes look around the new world she finds herself within. Her mother, a large black mare, compared to her own small self, cleans her until she is almost about to shine. The little girl giggles as Porcia cleans her. This process of cleaning is a new sensation for her, but she enjoys every moment of it.
It isn’t until her mother stands up that her eyes furrow into confusion. Otrera isn’t even certain how to get herself off up the ground. Her mother keeps encouraging her, but it feels all too foreign. But the new face that arrives makes her burry her head into her mother’s legs. She didn’t know this stranger. However, she peaks through her buried face at the ocelot stallion when he greets them. She knows that voice. And her mother’s reaction only confirms it more.
She then decides to try and stand up. At first she fumbles, falling back on her hind legs. She doesn’t give up though. The newborn girl keeps trying again and again. Finally, on her last attempt, her hooves plant firmly in the ground. “Mama! I did it!” She says happily even though her legs are wobbling a bit.
