    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

It is the distress that fist lures the lioness in. Once again – as so many times lately, and Longclaw had come to fetch her more often than not – she had strayed away from her home. Where Marigold knows and values the boundaries of Tephra (inside was remotely safe, outside definitely not), the lioness does not. She goes where her legs carry her, and most of the time she simply follows her nose.

Like was common for lions, though very unhorse like, she hadn’t fed in a couple of days. The loud growl told the tale of her empty stomach. But it is not herself who she has in mind when thinking of feeding, it’s the whelp she carries in her womb.

Crouched low she sneaks upon the black roan girl, off wind to make sure her scent doesn’t betray her. The lioness might be faster than a horse, but in endurance she lacked. Spotted too soon and the filly would outrun her, or, perhaps, outfly her.

A whiff of the girl’s scent has her pausing her silent approach. Though mingled and contaminated by many other scents, unmistakably she carries a familiar one with her too. Marigold would’ve missed it, but the lioness’ sense of smell was much better, and with the two souls growing closer together, she does recognize it too. Alpha. Longclaw.

The golden she-cat shudders, clawing the grass in annoyance, but she is simply unable to ignore the fact. She couldn’t harm one of her whelp’s siblings. However, she is neither to return back home empty handed. So when she trots over to the girl there is no threat in her step, only two attentive eyes and standing ears, her tail almost waggling behind her.

Up close she makes haste to inspect the girl, like a lioness would inspect her cubs. Even as yearling Valensia stands much higher than the lioness, but it doesn’t stop her. Her maw brushes across the girl’s shoulder lightly, then pulling back slightly to let her eyes roam over Valensia. First the left, than the right side. Only when she determines the girl is okay the lioness – or Marigold actually – faces the girl, her amber eyes voicing out the questions she cannot speak. What are you doing so far away from home?

A beautiful face is a mute recommendation.

OOC: Let me know if I need to change something! Kind of went ahead with the whole inspection thing, but I can imagine Valensia shying way from it.
