Diable Rouge
>The song ended, and the boy was still. Diable Rouge bowed his head closer to his chest, and took a long, deep breath, letting the familiar feeling of sadness envelop him. It felt like a weight being placed on his shoulders - another burden of death to bare. Although, he wasn't sure if the colt was dead, he had a feeling in the pit of his stomach that told him otherwise.
And then, another child made herself known, as she came from the shoreline to the pair. In her naivety, she whispered a soft "hello" to the motionless colt, and played at his sand-covered face with child-like wonder. Rou did not have the heart to tell her to stop...to tell her that her newfound friend may not be breathing for very much longer. And then, a shape appears beside the child, with another close behind. They are all nearly identical - a family.
"Is something wrong? Do you need help?" The buckskin mare asks, concern written on her face. The roan raises his head and swallows, looking to the two children by her side. Could she help, with two hungry children at her heels? He hoped, if Kaiode was still alive, she could be of some assistance. The boy couldn't die...not this way.
"His...his mother. She just left him here, like he was nothing. She didn't even clean him," He looked down to the ashy colt. "I want to help him...but I don't have the most important thing he needs." The stallion breathes deeply, and then looks into the mare's amber eyes with his own two-toned hues. He hoped that maybe, just maybe, she would help him.
