QOTY
"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

He slowed, movements held to keep her close. The mere thought of letting her get lost made the stallion run rigid. He smiled lightly at her touch, turning his head just enough to bump her forehead.
"I feel as though you will enjoy it here Zephyr."
The bay spoke, eyes traveling over the ashy ground. The volcano was near, just close enough that its heat sank into his bones, but the ash could not reach out to touch him. Hopefully, the alabaster mare would alert him if the fiery heat became too much for her.
"If you find Tephra does not suit you, we can always go else where."

"I feel as though you will enjoy it here, Zephyr." He spoke. "I already do." Zephyr grinned, nudging him gently with her head as if to say 'it's because of you.' She continued by his side, letting him guide her in the direction of the volcano. The change in temperature was sudden and unanticipated - the air grew heavy and the heat more intense. Sweat seeped through her pours, dampening the fur around her chest and neck. She took a deep breath; she had never roamed this close to the volcano before, and she wasn't expecting how the air would make her feel like there was a ten pound weight resting on her chest. A feeling, she supposed, she would just have to get used to. "If you find Tephra does not suit you, we can always go elsewhere." Krigare spoke, as if reading her mind. She hesitated to speak. She adored Tephra - how it stayed unusually hot, the smell of ash and sea, how it was full of the tropical greenery that she loved. She wanted to stay. "I will just have to get used to the heat around here, that's all." She replied timidly, taking in the ashy air around her.

I'm gonna set this world on fire Protect Hyaline he said... Help me he commanded. Shockingly she obeyed... Obeyed?! What the fuck kind of sorcery did he have over her! Two toned face tossed to the sky as she carried herself quickly across the lands. She was well muscled and sleek giving her the advantage of long distance travel. Oh and what distance it was...
She reached Tephra shores in no time, her destination and map given to her by the massive black stallion who admittedly gave sanctuary to the perpetrator. Disgusting! She would have spat if not for the sight before her. No, now she wanted to vomit. The cooing and mushy crap flowing from their interaction was sickening. Her onyx eyes roll as the whiskey mare teeters against his embrace. She's forgotten the purpose of her trip here politically. Now her true destiny was before her... ruining lives. She had stopped to watch but quickly their thoughts overran her mind... Hearts and flowers and glittery things. Oh hell NO! A devious grin creeps upon her lips. She was still far enough away that they hadn't noticed her. Hell they probably hadn't noticed the air surrounding them. She digs deep into their thoughts but nothing interesting lies there so she offers her own... For the mare, finding her lack of sight, a cliff is announced, he's leading you to your death. Don't go! Run away!! She snickers to herself. The stallion though, she allows him to watch the mares reaction in confusion... Where's my fucking popcorn?! MOLOTOV

The wave began to grow. She breathed in deeper, trying to grasp the smell, but the pungent sulfur and ash masked it. Her heart began to race. He's leading you to your death...Don't go!!! Run Away!!! Zephyr heard the voice, but did not understand. Why was her brain telling her to do this? Was this her gut finally telling her that her suspicions were true...that no equine could truly be trusted? She began to back away, the wave growing bigger and stronger. It rose with the currents until finally she could feel it ready to crash. It whispered constantly in her head...Run away!!! The humidity mixed with the heat made her struggle for breath. She shook her head violently, trying to make the wave recede. "Don't...don't hurt me." Zephyr begged, almost at a whisper. The wave crashed. "DON'T....DON'T HURT ME!!!" Her first instinct was flight. The mare bolted, her legs pulling her in the direction she had come from. The wave was destroying everything in its path - she was drowning, gasping for air. Her gait became so fast she could barely handle it, the wind blowing her cream colored mane behind her furiously. She galloped through the thick grass and underbrush, desperately trying to escape. She wasn't paying attention. A branch tangled in the brush snagged at her leg, clinging to it for dear life. She felt the trip, but could do nothing to stop it - had she not been running, the snag would've been no problem. In slow motion, head over heels, she began to fall to the ground. She was going too fast, and she felt her knees double over as her cranium knocked onto the ground...the crack could be heard from a mile away. In and out of consciousness...she felt herself begin to fall asleep...

I'm gonna set this world on fire A malicious cackle rises from her throat as the whiskey mare flees. Voice of shrill terror screams out, begging for her life... Well that was classic! Her lover chases after her in confusion and just as the scene was getting good she hears a rumbling behind her. Ugh... Now what?! Can't a girl just have some peace and quiet around here for fucks sake.
It doesn't take him long to catch up, considering the fact she was standing still. Apparently he has some sort of important reason for interrupting. Trespassing or borders or some shit fills his thoughts. She remains still as he curls around her, placing himself between her and the situation unfolding by her doing. No one would know that though. For all anyone knew the mare was consumed with an inner demon... He speaks quickly - a little judgey - demanding answers from her. Onyx eyes glide over his sleek form as he counts... 1 ... They start at his hips, following the curvature of his spine ... 2 ... Continuing to round his shoulder then glide up his nape. Finally resting upon his face ... You don't want me to say 3 ... He warns with a smirk playing across his lips. She knows what's to come so a more demonic smile plays across her own... "3...." She speaks. But in doing so her mind casts out to the stallion standing over the fading whiskey mare, Monsters are coming... MOLOTOV

The ground shook beneath them, the bay straightening his posture against the rough movements of the earth. Green hues landed on those who stood only a few yards away from them. A male, shielding a female from his view.
Krigare recognized the stag, for he had seen him around. Though the flame licked mare was new, and the thoughts that fled his mind plagued him. Preventing him from rushing to them.
Monsters are coming
The bay begins to walk, steps strong and determined to reach them.
Monsters are coming
One of them had to be doing this? His mind was never this cruel, never this strong were his feeble thoughts.
Monsters are coming
The two were closer now, close enough that he could make out the stallion's words, and the literal flame reaching up the dark mares pelt.
Monsters are coming
He whispered a quiet 'they're already here' before looking them both head on, ears flat against the elegant curve of his thick neck.
"Who are you?"

No, the true monsters are other people. A point proven as the ivory mare lay in the tall Tephran grasses. Her forehead agape with a large cut from the fall, crimson blood dripping down onto the ground, staining her alabaster pelt. Beneath the wound, her head pounded, blood rushing to the crack in her skull - a minor contusion, but painful to say the least. Sleep is a thing that Zephyr often did not get. Insomnia kept her awake most nights, and if she was able to sleep, it was a sort of rest that was not really refreshing. A half in-half out of consciousness, always on high alert for dangers. But here, she lay. Aside from the wounds on her head, she looked quite peaceful. Eyelids shut, hiding the milky white film of her orbs, body spread out almost as if she had chosen to lay there. The flame covered mare had sent Zephyr running, a devilish thing to do to someone who had no trust to begin with, who was finally learning to open up to someone. A crash, a wound, and now she was asleep. She had no idea of the events unfolding just a few feet beside her. Now, all she had to do was wake up. |
