    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Every morning, Moira races down to the stillwater pool to check her reflection, and every morning she is satisfied that it has improved. Most days she would have gone back to the warm cove where she rests with her family for a few more lazy hours of sleep, but this morning the air feels almost unbearably heavy and the cool blue water of the open sea sings her name.

Moira lifts her dark muzzle to the wind, feeling the way her nearly-dry mane ripples in the breeze off the water. The sun is bright and full, and just as she thinks of every sunrise, Moira finds this the most beautiful thing she has ever seen.

Hatched into darkness, the marvel of a sunlit world is one that the filly still takes in with awestruck green eyes. Today she watches a family of dolphins skim across the waves. She whistles a cry to them, and is delighted when one of them calls back. The grulla filly makes her way down to the edge of the water. There she stands at the very edge of the water, until a small purple and gold bird appears and perches on her mane.

Moira smiles at her companion, but the words they share are unspoken. In the water, a large manta ray - his coloring matching the kingfisher’s - floats in the shallows. A fish friend, one whom Moira greets him with another nonverbal but clearly friendly conversation. She spends quite some time with the two animals, chattering about the winds and the skies and the wonderful news of the sun’s return. By the time she returns to the path that leads to her family’s cove, she knows that Aquaria and Acionna will surely be awake. Wavering between heading toward them or toward the heart of the big island, Moira finds that the choice is made for her when she hears the sound of someone approaching and raises her head to greet them.
