    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

His head tipped to one side at the sudden blankness of her expression, the concentrated blandness when her brother became the topic of conversation. Family dynamics were not a subject the lightning boy was given to any expertise about. Perhaps her relationship with this mysterious brother was strained, or otherwise complicated. He decided it didn't really matter. Not today.

Today their were more immediate things on his mind, adventures that wouldn't wait. Besides, it really didn't seem like a conversation Dove seemed interested in carrying on.

He held his breath from the moment she first brushed against his wayward mane. The light pressure of her muzzle was magnified by the prickles of energy that had drawn down into that single, focused point. The constant jitter of electricity seemed more than willing to jump between them, sparks discharging between the two like birds flying from nest to nest.

When she slipped away, the softest of grazing touches brushing his shoulder, the air he'd been holding within came rushing out in a sharp burst. His skin felt alive, buzzing and prickling all over, from lack of air or something less obvious, he wasn't sure. Wild. Was that how he looked? It was certainly how he felt at the moment. As untamed as the wind he rode and twice as reckless, he wanted nothing more than to explode into the air in a burst of strength and color. She touched him, liked him. He felt he could take on the world at that moment, if only she asked.

Grinning foolishly, he pranced in place waiting for her answer, emotions clear as the sun on his face. This was turning into an excellent day, he noted, when at last she nodded her agreement. "Fantastic! Do you know the way?" He asked, meanwhile blinking at her back curiously. Nope, no wings there. His bright smile faltered slightly. "Okay, I give up. How do you fly?" A look of puppy-ish confusion creased his features, his own wings flexing and stretching in preparation of the imminent journey.
