    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Oriash

they promised that dreams can come true

The cove is a ghost of its former self, riddled with a collection of Oriash’s own specters. So why then does she come? There was no excuse of diplomacy, no reason for her to be here. She couldn’t even pretend it was to visit Isilme as they were never truly close. Yet she comes, taking to the sky despite the chill and skipping over the border of a land she has no right to intrude on. Yet it still feels like home, in some way, still feels like hers. Waiting at the border feels wrong, almost.

Besides, Ori has a destination in mind. The beaches call to her, the place where she’d once lain at the edge of the surf when her mother’s had disappeared into a coma. The beaches were her true beginning, and she had not seen them in so very long. This time, there is no Brunhilde in tow and she can be herself without the worry of the other mare’s keen eyes. As much as she liked the other mare, she didn’t quite trust her. It was as if she sought Ori’s weakness, sought out all her cracks. There were many, and they were not well hidden, so Ori didn’t necessarily want to give up any more.

As she flies, she cannot help but notice that almost no one can be seen below. Only a few equine bodies dot the landscape, and despite all her animosity toward her mother’s, her heart crumbles a bit to see the land they loved so very forgotten. It is nothing now, just a way station for the lost and a claim to territory for Pangea’s new Queen. What had Isilme been doing? Was this what her sort of sister wanted?

Ori can’t answer that question, because she doesn’t really know the mare she grew up with. They hardly even grew up together. Ori was gone, stolen and then simply lost to Loess before she’d been more than a year old. Not that it would have mattered much, for she never really got to know her adopted sisters much anyway. They had one another, and it was no easy task to break in between the twins. She held no grudge though.

The route she takes over the Cove is not direct, scouting just in case maybe there is something she’s missed. She sees no additional horses though, and her heart crumbles just a tiny bit more. Eventually, she lands on the beach, uncertain what she intends to do other than to simply be here. It seems like enough to simply be, for a moment. Coming here feels like facing a reality she has long since run from, feels like facing a truth she has avoided. She may not live her anymore, but it was her beginning and it is in her blood. Her mothers blood, the same blood she has pretended for so long she does not have.

But she does, and maybe it’s better to own it then to hide from it.

The waves crash along the shore, rolling over her obsidian hooves and sending a chill into her bones. The ocean is icy and cruel, but she finds some comfort in it anyway though she can’t stand in the surf for long. Instead, she moves out of the waves and simply walks, beginning to travel up the beach that she loves so dearly. The mountains on her other side block her from the rest of the territory, but perhaps someone would find her, or perhaps not given how few seem to be around. She does not bother to cloak herself, sure that at worst she’d simply be kicked out for wandering in uninvited.

Maybe, somewhere along this beach, lay the answers she can’t find anywhere else. Or simply the questions she can’t quite formulate into words. She doesn’t know, but can only speculate that her mind brought her here with some hope of finding the something she seemed to constantly seek.

but they forgot that nightmares are dreams too.

She's just here to wander the beach/because this was in my head, but feel free to pester her.
