    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

i want to try everything; smidgen

Lilliana gives a gentle shake of her head as she teasingly pulls it away from Smidgen's touch. She might take one compliment but certainly not two. The corner of her eyes crinkles with pleasure as she looks down to the little mare, happy to be in her company. That soft smile rises and Lilli lowers her head again, letting her copper mane shield them for just a moment in the dusky light. "Between the two of us, we make quite the pair then," she teases.

Her eyes laugh before she does, lighting up with it before the sound comes chiming from her dark mouth.

Whatever doubts Lilliana has about her own gifts, Smidge eases them as she looks down on her glowing foreleg. It's the first time she has shown anybody and her heart hammers - not sure what to expect of herself or the Falabela's reaction. Lilli manages to tear her gaze away from the glow and studies Smidge instead waiting for some sign apprehension or perhaps even, dare she think it, distrust?

The copper mare doesn't know how she feels about magic most days. What can she expect from the reaction of another?

"A whitelighter," she murmurs gently against the dimming colors of sunset and the quiet shadows that settle around them. "That was one name we called them back.. home," comes the quiet admission. Realizing that it didn't explain much at all (when have her Gods and her history ever explained anything to anyone in Beqanna apart from Elaina?), Lilliana adds, "Healing. I haven't actually.. used it yet. Apart from a few small animals." Another pause, "It scares me. What if I mess up? Do something wrong?"

Not that Lovelace ever had but there is no Lovelace here to teach her. It is only herself and what she can learn on her own. And Lilliana isn't entirely sure that she can trust herself.

Whatever fears Lilli has about her gift, Smidgen's reaction to it fades with the discovery that the little mare was actually from Taiga. The winds could certainly blow in mysterious ways, she thinks. There is curiosity in the way she holds her head and her expression marvels at the way that Smidge smiles and dances, all playful joy and unbridled happiness, a bright light against the coming embrace of night.

A fond grin graces Lilliana's features and she lowers her head again, ready to share everything she knows about the northern forest with her. She will - it is only the question that she asks that pauses her. "Aten is our Champion and he has been in those woods as long as anyone can remember," she says, wondering if it is a name that Smidgen recognizes. "And Lepis is our Comtesse with the Commandant, Wolfbane."

There is more she can add - that Aten used to be the leader and no longer was. That the takeover of Taiga when she had first arrived there had been somewhat of a scandal that rippled through Beqanna.

There is a long look that Lilliana gives her friend, turning the thoughts over in her mind before she reaches down to brush her own dark muzzle towards the petite one of Smidge: "Would you like to go home, Smidgen?"
