    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The sweet taste of forgotten blood; Aire, Any
    #1
The air was brutally cold this morning, especially since spring had arrived, bringing joyous sun and warmth weather with it.
She huffed in irritation to the wind, the cold fronts bringing a chilly sting to her black nose which now scuffled along the mass of green grass and hills.
A strong sensation filled her stomach as she stopped, her back supporting her weight as she rose into the air, her head penetrating above the thick layer of gathering mist, slowly rolling in from the west.
Her nostrils expanded as her heaving mass came crashing back down to earth, her paws covering the surface as she huffed once more, her body beginning to move in a limp manner across the rolling hills, quite hungry by now, especially after living off of berries for so long.

She needed meat, something that would fill her up for a while, red and rather bloody.
Her diet mainly consisted of fish, berries, crass, pulp and insects, but that usually became quite dull and rather easy to find, nothing that would actually make her work for the food, cause a drive in her instinct to hunt something bigger. It had definitely been too long, way too long.

The female begins with tracking, her nose sharply tuned to the ground, soil gently scraping against the fur on her lower chin as she moves.
The scent of deer is still strong as she trails a small harem of hinds, the sweet aroma almost tantalising her as she nears the trail, her eyes solely focused on one target.
The bear now moves along the line of scent, her sharp nose able to pick out the information she valued most, which animal was the weakest, which one was most likely to fall prey to her appetite.
The lumbering female now slows gently as the scent becomes overpowering, her brain entangled as she makes herself low, her body hidden amongst the thick shrubs as she listens, her small furry ears attending the hidden chatter of the hinds as they begin to forage, now is the time, to spring into action and catch what was hers to own.

But the moment was so pure, the smell of flesh coming toward her in waves, so fresh and exciting.
While the moment was a good one, her stomach seemed to disagree on the fact of patience, her body ready to lunge forward in a spike of aggression, but she remained still, patience was something she loved to hold, keep a grip on it, demand that it stays in its place.
Her brown fur is clenched by the bushes that surround her, holding onto her fur as she moves silently, a smile faintly displayed on her face as she halts, her expression now turning into a grin.

The female cuts forward, the bush parting into waves as her large body emerges in full swing, she wouldn't be able to keep her pace for long, but she knows this well, her body already following the smaller doe, one that didn't have the time to grow, a shame really.
Her large arms now lunging forward to grip the smaller animal, claws sinking into the flesh, the magnificent scent erupting into the air.
She didn't want the animal to suffer though, soon enough it had already collapsed under her weight, her body already moving to suffocate it, her jaw clenched over the doe's throat. The animal convulsed wildly for a few minutes before loosening.

The female does not waste any time, her maw sliding to the soft underbelly, sinking in to reveal the soft flesh hiding beneath, a sweet taste she had not been able to enjoy in quite a while, but her attention is quickly diverted to the sound of rustling bushes, her blood-covered nose unable to pick up the scent of whatever was hiding inside.

hear the noise that moves so soft and slow
that's the sound of freshly fallen snow

She was tiny and black as she snuffled along, dutifully following momma's trail despite that she was supposed to stay put. She'd thought she lost her once though, and was afraid to lose her again, so she tracked her as if she even knew how to. Most of it was probably just luck, in reality. Even still, that little nose was pressed to the ground, covering half the scents in a coating of dirt and grime.

When she heard a lot of crashing and noise, she ducked down in a little ball of fluff, dark eyes wide and heart racing. Something scary was out there! Momma was near though, so she tried not to worry too much. At least, she thought she was. Probably. She was a very good young tracker, certainly, so Momma should be nearby.

She waited until it got quiet, then waited a little longer just in case. In a few years, she could stand up for herself, but as a very small cub, she definitely could not do it now. So she waited with a patience that grew sleepy, her eyelids drooping and head lolling before snapping back awake again. And then she started to drift off again, and snapped back awake. Until she was too worried that if she slept she would really lose Momma forever and she barrelled out of her hiding spot with a little squeal, stumbling and then flying into Momma's side.

Her face buried in the thick fur, enveloped in the comfortable smell of Momma and safety. Then she pulled back, her little nose working again as she tapped and explored as close to Momma's mouth as she could, finding the new scent there and sitting back on her haunches with snout bouncing in the air for a better sniff. "Nngt?" she grunted softly in curiosity.

Meat was quite a delightful delicacy,  different types of hard and soft muscle decorating the body of the animal, ready to be ripped into shreds.
She hadn't tasted the sweet sapitidy of flesh in a very long amount of time, too long perhaps. Now the hunter was awake again, almost forgetting everything about the previous hibernation where everything seemed to have gone wrong.

"Oh?" The female wakes from gorging on the carcass, a small piercing bump in her side as she turns, the scent already familiar as she displays a smile "Hello little one" she leans down, curling around the small cub as she lays down, the black nose scenting the smaller bear, her small ears turning to listen to it.
"Are you hungry?" she asks softly as she motions toward the fresh carcass, if she wasn't too fond of eating meat then they could always search for berries.

"Where have you been?" She asks as she stands again, from all the memories she had lost in her hibernation she had not forgotten about her child, which was a rather difficult thing to forget anyway.
Now that the cub was there, the female became quite alert, sitting down on her haunches, her forward half sitting upright to look at anything that was approaching.

hear the noise that moves so soft and slow

Momma smiles at her and her own little snout mirrors it, lips pulling up in a gentle grin. Then everything is so warm and snuggley as Momma curls around her, asking softly if she was hungry. Her tummy grumbled in its own answer and she blushed, soft eyes delighted.

"Where have you been?" she asked, standing again and settling in protectively, so watchful like the greatest mama bears were.

"I got lost," she whispered, bringing a little paw up to nibble on her nails anxiously. She leaned back on her haunches, just like Momma, sitting up and looking around too. But it was so safe now with her mom here, so her attention quickly returned back to the larger bear to watch for what else she might learn how to do. "And stuck," she added with a thoughtful frown.

"The bunnies wouldn't let me in their bush and I was too big. I got stuck and the boy pulled me out." But she'd lost her Momma and had been so afraid. The memory of the fear pushed her right off her little rounded bum and she hobbled straight against Momma's side again and buried in close.

"Do we leave now?" she asked, her little voice curious. She didn't even fully wait for an answer and already began climbing up onto her mother's back where it was even safer and she didn't have to worry about keeping up or getting lost. "Berries?" she prompted hopefully.

Her body is slightly reluctant as the smaller bear asks where she had been, her smile gently fading from her expression "I'm not sure little one, I'm sorry you had to be alone" she leans in closer to the cub with a smile, gently  tucking her in to a hug "Maybe I was just asleep for too long, you know us bears" she laughs gently before turning her attention to the grumbling going on inside the little one's stomach.

Her smile is quick to return as she listens to Aire speak, her emotions running rampant as she rose into the air "The bunnies, huh?" she laughs gently before leaning in closer to the cub "Listen little one. I can promise you that you will never get lost again. You've got me" she closes her eyes for a moment and processes her own feelings before bringing the cub into a tight hug, rising after a few moments, staring out toward the expanse of warm land "We should get that stomach sorted out, hmm?" she smiles as her gentle voice reaches the cub, turning toward the carcass that lay nearby "Have you ever tried meat? It's a good change from berries. Berries are tasty but they get boring after a while" she nods as her paw motions toward the food, her body remaining close to the cub, unable to even move off for a moment.

The mother moves off toward the carcass, sinking her snout into the warm flesh, gulping the meat down as she sits on her haunches, turning to the cub in order to invite her closer, her smile stained with blood as she turns back to the kill, sinking her black nose into the deer.
She wonders where the cub had been while she was asleep, what she had gone through and how she was able to find her.
Whatever it had taken, she was glad to be reunited with what meant the most to her, her smile still spread across her furry face.
