    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Ruan

it's not by bone but yet by blade
can break the magic that the devil made

He reluctantly excused himself from his beautiful companion's side at a later point in the night. There was no excuse to be in this land and not let his distant family know that he was still alive. He'd watched little Kali in brief glances, but that was not good enough and he slipped away to see her.

She seemed occupied for the moment though, and he redirected his path to her father instead. His friend.

Ruan looked very different from the last time he'd seen them. It didn't concern him too much as he waited for a good moment then approached Kerberos with a lazy half-smile and bright blue eyes. It was damn good to see them again, to see them healthy and happy.

"Kirby," he greeted solidly, using the nickname the iron man had often answered to and not immediately waiting for recognition. "I am glad to see you made it to safety. I'm sorry your home was not deemed one of the fairies' havens. How is everyone?"

The Taiga, too, was not a haven, but he couldn't bring himself to leave it. Thus far, his family was safe regardless of the danger and he would do everything in his power to ensure it remained that way.

and it's not by fire but what's forged in flame
can drown the sorrows of a huntsman's pain

Kirby was, frankly, in his motherfucking element. He loved a party, looked sexy as fuck, and couldn’t wipe the grin off his face to save his damn life. Nothing was gonna spoil his mood today, not even Lacey being here with someone else. Shut the fuck up, there was nothing fake about his smile, and he’d knife anyone who suggested otherwise. He was a catch, and he was damn well determined to look it while his goddess was off dancing with some stupid fucking asshole who wasn’t even the right shade of purple.

It was fine. Even if he was half-convinced he was straight up going to murder someone before the night was out, he’d keep his goddamn smile on over gritted teeth, and have a good time if it killed him. Which hell, it honestly might.

He didn’t so much as flirt with anyone, didn’t bother dancing when the only one he wanted to dance with was batting her stupid gorgeous lashes at someone else whose face he’d happily punch in. Okay. Shut the fuck up already. Enough. Hit up Reilly for a drink, drag Kali onto the dance floor to make sure she was having fun, coax her into a smile and nudge her into some cute boy’s arms for a dance after his, even though she blushed and protested. Somebody had to have a good time, okay?

Shit, she was getting old enough they should have A Talk. Gross. She was his baby, she wasn’t allowed to grow up. But also, if she was gonna, she damn well oughta know how to flirt properly and when to knee a guy in the balls. Right. Dammit. Tomorrow’s problems.

He hit up Reilly for another drink, ‘cause god knew he’d need it to deal with Kali being grown up enough to need a talk about fending guys off with sticks and/or knees, seriously, straight to the balls, do not be afraid to hurt ‘em if they don’t take no for an answer when you don’t wanna, really get some oomph behind it, wind up and wham, right where it counts. If they cross you, they don’t deserve to reproduce, break what you gotta break, baby. Okay, two more drinks, definitely two.

Drink number three coursed through his veins and had him relaxing some, that tight ball of rage unwinding, his fists unclenching, and when familiar blue eyes grinned at him out of a new face and started talking to him in a voice he’d been wondering if he’d ever hear again, he beamed and dragged his friend into a crushing bear hug. “God fucking damn, Ruan, look at you! The dead sexy wolf look suits you. So does being alive, I’m glad to see that one stuck! We were worried. Kal was in Taiga when--well. We couldn’t find you when we got back from that fucking Mountain, that asshole overgrown hill bent time right around us and--not important, anyhow! You’re here! Shit, you say hi to Kali yet? She’s gonna lose her shiiiit, oh my god let’s go surprise her!”
Call me the world's sexiest killing machine.
