    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    "do you believe
    in god?"

When she accuses him of letting her win, his expression can't seem to make up its mind. His features shift from fear to discomfort to, eventually, confidence. She watches it all with sharp eyes and something akin to a smirk. When he finally responds the coyness of his words surprises her, and a delighted smile lights her face as though he's said something marvelously funny.

But then comes the answer to her question, the answer she awaits with keen impatience. It seems all his indecision has coalesced into something wonderfully certain, wonderfully pure. "Anything." He lays his words down like a creature baring its neck for the slaughter. She laughs again, feeling like the wild night is hers and hers alone. She is feeling generous, too, or maybe just lonely.

Then North steps very close to her new friend, very quickly. The heat in the small space between their bodies (still warm from their race, still fragrant) makes the night around them feel very vast and very cold. "Stay with me the night, Rouhi," She twirls his name on her lips like a baseball bat, imagines his heart twisting too. Her lips find the place where a wing sprouts from his broad shoulder and she places a kiss right where feather meets skin. She does this because she wants to, and because his body is hers now. They both know it.

"I could teach you things," she says with another cheeky grin, as though he needed convincing.

    Rouhi

The grulla stallion was hopelessly lost in her touch as he stood still, his mind racing around himself stupidly as he searched for a reason to stay. But he couldn't. The stallion had to return to Hyaline, he had already been gone for too long, the stallion looked at the mare longingly as she spoke, her words were soft and inviting, his soul already convinced but his mind turning away.
Rouhi blinked for a moment with a heaving sigh escaping his chest "I must leave" his words escape his muzzle heavily as he walks close to the mare, the side of his body brushing against her soft pelt as he stood close, his wings held above her, placed on her back as he moved away, his head drifting away as he looked back, his legs heavily halted.

His eyes seemed to drift toward her "Maybe another day" he offers a smile toward the female as he turns away, his tail flicking leisurely behind as his speed increased, rushing back toward Hyaline in the cold snow, his soul longed to turn back toward the mare as he moved, his legs now dragging behind him as he walked through the deepening snow, halting at a hilltop that overlooked the meadow, from here he could see the mare standing alone, the stallion offered once more goodbye as his front legs lifted into the air, his wings supporting his rise as they violently slapped the air above, front legs kicking out as he smiled deeply in an overly dramatic display, his call rang out as he sped down the hill toward Hyaline, happy to have made a friend, a success for his mind and soul.
