    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

She growled in agitation. Sparks flew from her foot as she stomped a hoof to the ground. He could see her fire intensify again, as hot and hungry as it had been before but this time under her complete control. Perfect. So powerful. So dangerous.

    So painful.

Gahh! He cried out as his flesh singed and burned from her prison around him, his face pinching in agony. Her circle flared, burned brighter and hotter. He was forced to finally form his armor, solid ice wrapping around him in an instant. It took effort to keep it maintained, her fire was continuously melting it in a pool of water at his feet. He grit his teeth to fight the pain, hard eyes watching her warily.

Her power swirled in a dangerous hurricane of flames, reflecting brightly in their eyes. His ice crept higher up his body, protecting him from the magnifying prison around him. He watched in pained silence as his spears of ice melted instantly upon touching her skin, or were swallowed entirely by the dust of flame she sent above her back. Good girl. A crooked grin swept his lips, blue eyes bright. Waiting for more.

She obliged his command. Without a move, fire fell from above like rain. Constantly reforming his armor was wearing on him, and he knew he couldn't defend this much power for much longer. With a desperate sweep of magic, he doused her circle as he launched himself forward out of her rain. He barreled into her with the force of his strength, cascading his chilled magic all over her to cool her skin, and as soon as they touched he shaped a dome of ice around them. Encapsulated and trembling, his breaths came heavy. The smell of burnt flesh still lingered all over him.

He looked up and met her eyes. Slowly, he stepped in closer. His soft muzzle brushed against her neck, his chest pressed into hers in an embrace. Shaky breaths ruffled her hair and he fought a wave of fatigue. It had been far too long since he'd used so much magic, and like an athlete out of shape, he was wearied sooner than he should be.

    Jinju.. he whispered. So tired.
His body begged to lie on the ground, to rest just a few minutes. But so soon after she had challenged his Dominance.. He couldn't put himself beneath her, prone and vulnerable. So he held her to him instead, and tried not to lean in against her. His head draped over her withers with a sigh.

    Let's go home.
