    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Winter comes, and though Beyza is still undecided on the cold it is nice to pretend she blends in. That her stark whiteness does not make the snow around her seem almost yellow in comparison. But still, it is close - sometimes she imagines she’s a horse crafted from snow and ice that has been moulded and brought to life.

It is not any more impossible than the real story of how she came to be alive.

Part of why she has come to the meadow is to look for her mother - this stretch of time since she has seen Agetta has been longer than all the others - but also the meadow is her favourite place to be in the winter. The mostly-open landscape allows the blanket of snow to lay thick and smooth. At least before the hooves and claws and paws trample it, before it becomes stained with refuse.

Now, though, there is a fresh snowfall, and it easily distracts Beyza with the crisp simplicity of it. The young mare moves about the meadow in the late evening, the glow around her not only providing light but heat as well as it cocoons her. She cannot see the stars that should be coming out now because the clouds have lingered, sprinkling snow down upon the earth still.

Large flakes surround her, turning to steam when they land on her body. Her white, un-blinking eyes are unfocused as she moves - lost in the contrast of snow against the growing darkness.
