I'll burn this whole city down; Birthing, Any - Lyris - 10-05-2015

She cannot wait to pop this damn kid out.

She is so damn tired of her big fat belly, her ridiculous mood swings and food cravings, and her painfully swollen ankles. She is done, SO done.

When the labour pangs finally hit her she rushes off to a secluded clearing, eager to get the whole thing over with. And she’s lucky - it’s an easy birth (though obviously not comfortable), and the child is out on the Jungle floor in under an hour.

She breathes a sigh of relief as she heaves herself back to her feet. She’d been slightly afraid of having the same difficulty as Scorch, but she’s escaped that fate thank god.

On her feet, she turns to look at the sticky blob, head cocked to the side. It’s so … small. And gross. It doesn’t even look like a foal. She takes a few tentative steps forward and sniffs at it. Ew. Not a good smell. And wait, she’s supposed to lick that? The blob stirs, and she can finally see the head. It’s cute sort of? In a gross, unappealing sort of way?

Ugh she might as well get this over with.

Cringing, she reaches down and starts to clean the blob off with her tongue. “Oh yuck!” This is not her idea of fun.

As the gunk is cleaned away, the child begins to take on a more defined shape. The coat is dark, like Gaza’s, but the tiny rump is covered in a spotted blanket that matches Lyris’ own. And, horror of horrors, it’s a girl. Well this will be interesting.

She glances hesitantly up at the sky. It had been storming during the birth (the usual thunder and lightning), but it’s now returned to a dull, grumpy grey. Her eyes narrow. Her mother had always loved to tell her of the trouble she’d caused during and after her own birth - the sky had turned black, the rain had poured down in a torrent, and lightning had set several trees on fire. The noticeable absence of this makes her think that the girl might not be a weather user. Thank God. The Jungle might not be able to handle a second one.

She exhales, looking back down at the kid, who’s now blinking up at her with a set of unusual copper coloured eyes. Kind of … sweet, in their own way. “What are you lookin’ at?” Oh. Right. It’s … she’s probably hungry. And she should probably give the kid a name. “Umm … how about … Lexa? Yeah I’ll call you Lexa. And uh …” Now would be a good time to get up kid.

RE: I'll burn this whole city down; Birthing, Any - Yael - 10-07-2015

Yael isn’t surprised that Gaza doesn’t often talk about his family, let alone that he is a former prince and the son of a magician. Some women might find that intoxicating, drawn to the potential to be linked to someone with an immense amount of power. Others might find it off-putting… Yael was one of the more present magicians. She doubts they know what entails carrying one of her grandbabies.

Not much, really, just a constant eye and ear out, maybe setting ‘pings’ up in case the child is ever in trouble. She can’t do it for loads of babies, obviously. So maybe the golden woman should have a little talk with her seed-sowing son. Not that Yael disapproves of his choices, but she would like to keep the family a manageable size.

When Lexa’s life-dot suddenly flares into life on her little family map, Yael smiles to herself and dissolves into the wind. She lets the currents carry her down to the Jungle, where she frees herself and dives down into its dark depths. It’s easy for her to find the mother and child. Yael makes herself visible as a stream of tiny, golden sparkles that seem to have a life of their own as they radiate a (physically)  warm bit of light. The lights linger for a moment on Lyris, and then move towards her newborn daughter. The lights hover at the end of the filly’s nose and then swirl around her tiny hooves… she doesn’t know why, but she likes this one and her mother. In a mischievous move, Yael decides to leave her own mark on the girl, leaving a golden coronet on her front left leg before zipping off back into the brush.

When the girl is a little older, Yael will seek her out. Perhaps then, the mark will make sense; for now, it can be a hint and a puzzle all at once.

Yael, guardian of the desert

[let me know if you want me to take that last bit out. Just thought it could be fun and interesting! No worries at all if you don't.]

RE: I'll burn this whole city down; Birthing, Any - Lyris - 10-15-2015

Lexa is quick to attempt standing, and after a few tries, sways on knobbly legs. Lyris watches in amusement as the spotted filly stumbles over to her and, after a few moments of intense sniffing latches on to her udder. “Oof, go easy on me kid!” As the girl drinks, a weird feeling begins to come over her. It’s almost … warm feeling. Fuzzy. Is this affection?

Lyris grins wryly as the girl stumbles away, then plops down in a little hollow with a happy sigh. It appears the damn mothering hormones have gotten to her after all. She’s about to head over to the girl when a dazzling light catches her attention.

She watches, transfixed, as a stream of golden sparks trickles down, lingering at her nose. Her wonder turns to concern as the golden sparks pass her by and alight on her daughter. “Lexa!” Lyris dashes over to her daughter, but in the time it takes her to reach the little filly, the light is gone. She checks the girl over, looking for any injury, but all she can find is a golden coronet that Lyris is sure wasn’t there before. Lexa doesn’t appear harmed though, doesn’t even appear concerned, and her worry eases. In an uncharacteristic display of affection she reaches down to nuzzle at the girl. She’d never wanted kids, never wanted the irritation and responsibility … but, now that Lexa is here, Lyris isn’t finding it quite so bad. This might be alright after all.
