Such a strange numb { Shadowmere } - Havelock - 09-06-2025 It took a very long time before he could even think about her…let alone try to face her. His first tormentor, his beloved horrible mother. He only knew true affection from his sister, though he wondered if their childhood bond was only so strong due to the trauma they shared. He resented Shadowmere for a long time after she herself abandoned them, all he could remember was her babbling about their elder sister and her slipping into the night, never to be seen again. Once old enough, he had set out on his own. He couldn't remember how long it had been since he had seen Falljoy either. His past was a blur for one so young, just coming into his 7th year. He had grown into a fine stallion, lean and fit, and his horns no longer stubby bumps above his brow. There were times he saw himself in his reflection in ponds and streams that he could see his resemblance to his mother that had him cringe, but it was only recently that he recalled some of her babbling. Realizing there was a reason for her ways, and that she was only a misguided and tormented product of tragedy. It took days to track her as an equine, but only a few hours after bending his form into that of a hound. His droopy face glued to the ground, sniffing any trace of Shadowmere's scent left behind. He had a feeling he knew where she was headed, remembering her stories of the old pine forests of the prior Chamber as the trees changed from winter bare oaks and maples to dark and lush pines. He tracked her lingering scent, that of blood and elderberry, through the pines and stopped at the edge of a clearing, his deep brown eyes scanning the moorland slopes beyond. His heartbeat skipped when he saw her unmistakable angular form silhouetted against the pink glow of sunrise. His bones strained as he shifted back into his true form, and drew himself up. He knew he needed to approach with confidence, after having her berate him over being weak throughout his childhood. He was no meek child anymore, and he was finally ready to face her. He paced forward through the snow with his head held high, and let out a low whinny that carried through the air in a coiling wisp of steam. He knew she would know his call, and he didn't move closer to her. He was standing square, his body braced in case she bore down upon him like the hellbeasts that tore apart her family as a filly. It felt like he was trying to approach a wild cat, one sudden movement could spell death. If she would allow him to speak, he would find it in his heart to forgive her for all she had done, all she had put him and his siblings through, but he would not allow her to strike him down in cold blood either. He was not sure of her mental state after all these years, knowing how twisted she had been when he was young. The moments seemed to drag on and the young bay stallion wasn't sure what to expect from this encounter, but he hoped it to be civil. . HAVELOCK shapeshifting child of Mikael & Shadowmere RE: Such a strange numb { Shadowmere } - Shadowmere - 09-06-2025 ![]() I’ve bled for less, for sure, then best… The sunrise bled into the sky casting the land in a reddish glow, the snow glittering like embers. Shadowmere stood alone in the moorland clearing, having been the only soul to pass through the land in days. She wondered why the Chamber was so quiet, remembering its glory days over a century ago. Bustling with souls, ambitious and bloodthirsty. What a time to be alive. She had been there to see the reign of Starlace, Infection, all the way up until the rising the the raven queen, Straia, and Killdare. She had escaped the pines and watched it fall into ruin as Beqanna swallowed the lands she once knew so well. She had to navigate a new and broken world, all the while having her heart yearn for the home she once knew. Even though she had left to stay in the Forsaken Valley, her heart was still devoted to the Chamber. When Straia emerged to bring forth a new era of the Chamber, Shadowmere was both eager yet hesitant to return, not knowing if it would still be like the old land of pine and blood that she held so dear to her dark heart. It was only recently she finally returned, but was met with silence and cold. Left to her thoughts, she stared off into the empty land with a pang of loneliness in her heart, a feeling so new and unfamiliar to the dark mother that it made her chest ache. A still world, frozen, and she felt so trapped despite being in a land so vast. Though the silence was broken by a familiar voice on the wind that turned her melancholy to hostility. She snaked her neck toward the call, her inky glare burning as she bore down upon the stallion, plowing through the snow drifts until she was a mere inch from his face. YOU! Why are you here!? You left me like all the others!, she shrieked furiously, her eyes wild. He didn’t balk, he only stood his ground and looked down his nose at her with pity in his eyes. Pity? She shrieked again, TRAITOR! WEAKLING! WORTHLESS, THE LOT OF YOU! You dane to look down on me with what? PITY!? HOW DARE YOU, HAVELOCK! WHEN YOU LEFT ME LIKE NAGA AND TOOK YOUR SISTER WITH YOU!, her heart was pounding and her memory was twisting. She claimed to despise her children, claimed they were not worthy of her, but deep down in her blacked heart was a twisted love that was straining to break to the surface. She drew back her horned head and struck at him, snapping her teeth at his face. He was no longer the meek colt she had reared up, but she could not help but revert to her old habits, trying to break him down with poisoned words and physical threat. Yet he only remained pinned to his post, his eyes gleaming with a mixture of frustration and sadness and it only made her more furious. ~ s h a d o w m e r e RE: Such a strange numb { Shadowmere } - Havelock - 09-06-2025 He expected as much, and when she spat her venomous words at him like daggers that pierced his aching heart, he tried his hardest to hold his position. Her fury was tangible, but he could hear the pain laced in her shrill shrieks of confused anger. She was just that, confused. When her teeth snapped a breaths length from his muzzle he furrowed his brow and snapped back in frustration. "I left you!? You left US, Mother! Do you truly not remember? You left Falljoy and I to fend for ourselves without you while you went off to find Naga! It was always about Naga, and you continue to project her onto all of us!! You want Naga!? You want to see a so called traitor? HERE!”, he bellowed in her face and his body began to contort. His features shifting and molding into perfection. His mane turned to black with sun burnt tips that burned orange like the setting sun, his coat turning to a sunbleached black, and those eyes that Shadowmere knew all too well burned into her own like gleaming emeralds. He could hear her sharp inhale, a partial squeak in surprise as she reared back from him. HERE IS YOUR TRAITOR, MOTHER! NOT ME, NOT FALLJOY!”, he stalked forward, forcing Shadowmere to step back her eyes wide and maw gaping. He felt powerful in this moment, and realized just how small his mother really was. She was thin, her hip bones jutting out against her thin skin, her neck was like that of a swan. Though she was manipulative and most definitely not to be underestimated, she looked fragile. He used to be so terrified of her, but standing up to her like this? It made the tower he held her on in his mind begin to crumble. This mare was broken and corrupted, yet through his fear of her he held a twisted version of love for this horrid creature. He let his features shift back into his true self once more and he looked to his mother with pleading eyes. His voice softened as he spoke. ”Mother, I never left you…and I am here now. Please understand…”, he pleaded with her. He wanted to understand her, to be at her side, to soothe her demons and listen to her woes. He didn't want to see her falling deeper into her downward spiral alone. While he did not plan on staying here, he felt he needed to. For her... HAVELOCK shapeshifting child of Mikael & Shadowmere RE: Such a strange numb { Shadowmere } - Shadowmere - 09-07-2025 ![]() I’ve bled for less, for sure, then best… Those eyes….those piercing green feline eyes. One moment Havelock was standing there, and the next it was Naga. A visage so perfect, save the male voice booming from her lips, and each word slammed into her with such force that she was wholly taken aback. Her gasp squeaked into her lungs, eyes wide with shock. The mare she had garnered so much hate and jealousy for prowled forward with rolling shoulders like the feline predator she was. She wanted to strike her down right there, stain the shimmering white snow with her blood like she had yearned to do for years. She dreamed of the moment she could sink her teeth into the panther's throat, but it was that male voice emitting from Naga’s lips that made her hesitate. Shadomere thrashed her horned head wildly as she was forced to step back from Havelock's advance, wailing at the top of her lungs into the frigid air. ”No! NO! You left me! YOU ALL LEFT ME!”, she threw herself at him as he shifted back and his softened words choking her with foreign emotions as she bit into his shoulder with enough force to break skin. She didn't want to believe it, she wanted to hate all of them. Even if she had left him and Falljoy like he claimed, even if all the others left her…Havelock came back. The soft blue and bay shapeshifter was the only one of her children that not only came back to her, but had the strength to stand against her and used his power to manipulate her as she had always done to him with words. Her fury simmered to a strange feeling of pride mixed with absolute loneliness. She continued to wail as she pressed herself against his bleeding shoulder, the sound of his pained and rapid breaths so loud in her ear. She flinched at his touch as his muzzle gently stroked her withers, never knowing a truly affectionate touch in over a century, not since the loving touch of her mother. Never before had she felt such a wave of emotion, never had she released the years of pain and resentment she held within her. Each wail started to ease the ache in her heart, all the while Havelock stayed beside her, gently nuzzling her, letting her have this moment. Was he truly loyal to her? Or was this pity? Her emotions whirled and she was not sure how to comprehend so many mixed feelings. It was the first time in what felt like her whole life that she actually felt anything other than pure malice and it actually scared her, but maybe, just maybe…she could trust in her shifter son to not leave her like the others. To stay here with her in the slumbering Chamber forever. ~ s h a d o w m e r e |
