a simple start - Iris - 06-14-2023 iris The crown sits heavy on her head. Not in a metaphorical way, but in a literal way. It is not an unpleasant weight, but a strange thing that she simply hasn't gotten used to. When she'd first came back from the mountain with it the ghosts had whispered around her, muzzles outstretched as if to touch, tone hushed as if she'd become something new and different. She'd rather enjoyed their awe and reverence, though of course there were always some that did not agree with the rest. Some hated her for her, resented her for living when they could not. Some still saw her simply as Iris, and of course, she was. She would wear the crown until someone better came along to rule instead, but for now, the Chamber had her and Jamie. @Abrus RE: a simple start - Abrus - 06-17-2023
Abrus has actually enjoyed his time here in the Chamber so far, learning what he could about it. The forest itself, that is - it enchants him more than the population (it certainly helps that it feeds his abilities and genuinely makes him stronger). Some part of him will be curious about the history of this place when he decides to be interested, but for now he remains content to wander and only interact when the opportunity falls across his path. Such as today. He feels the forest react to someone moving more than he hears it. He had his senses out and notices the changes and ripples that occur from the very microscopic movements in the needle-covered soil. His eyes glow white then, as he borrows sight from his companion perched nearby. It’s the mare he recognizes from the meeting - his first foray into making some sort of effort to call the Chamber home. He’s not altogether surprised to see the crown on her head - and he reminds himself not to judge overly much about the decor considering the antlers he sports are magic-crafted and not ones he was born with. He doesn’t use his magic to learn more about her as he navigates himself close enough to be noticed - although it is, often, tempting just to avoid the usually tedious act of conversations, Abrus finds gleaned information can be rather misleading and shallow. So he does not seek information and he’s careful to ward himself so others might not dip into his mind or see things about him he has no wish for them to see. (And of course a part of him is delighted by the idea that someone may try and only find a mass thicket of a wall around everything from the deepest of secrets to the most trivial tidbits) Abrus tries to recall if he knows her name, but can’t remember her actually introducing herself. None of them had - which he finds a little entertaining now that the day has passed. He knows only Jamie’s name because she had spoken it to the shadowy one. So that will be his greeting - standing there among the trees. Having seen what he needed to, his eyes stop glowing as he severs the tie with his companion’s sight. The raven continues to perch nearby all the same, her white eyes scanning the canopy more than keeping an eye on the conversation below. “What’s your name?” His deep voice is blunt, but not unkind. Abrus has not yet decided which face to offer her. @ Iris RE: a simple start - Iris - 07-07-2023 iris If she were the kind to dwell on such things, Iris might wonder what it’s like to be so in tune with something living. What does it feel like to him as she crushes pine needles and weeds beneath her feet? Does it feel much like death does, as they are trampled and brushed aside. Which is not to say she does not respect and love this forest, for she certainly does, but she cannot help the minute destruction her feet leave behind. Still, she had seen him grow antlers and would perhaps one day wonder just what it might be like to create rather than destroy. @Abrus ...ugh, better late then never? lol |
