    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Age: 17

    Gender: Filly

    Breed: Quarter Horse/Brumby

    Height: 14.3

    Player: GirlFromDownunder

    Appearance

    Color: Isabella Palomino (ee/aa/nCr/ZZ)

    Eyes: Brown/yellow flecks

    Markings: Star

    Mane & Tail: Silvery white

Reyla's coat is a flashy pale palomino that turns a silvery white during the winter time. Born of a tamed chestnut dam and wild palomino sire, her coloring made her highly prized by more creatures other than horses in her old homeland. She has good bone and small hooves, providing her a sure-footedness that will no doubt help her survive here. She has a finely tapered head and neck, with an elegant muzzle and look to her eye. She has a star on her forehead. Reyla's voice is soft and soothing, like the sound of a bell, with a slight pitch to reflect the mannerisms and accent with how horses spoke in her homeland.

    Personality

Still learning the ways of the world, Reyla inherited her dam's curiosity and her sire's spirit. However, she learned to listen to her dam's advice early in life, for she quickly realized how far some would go to possess her. The negative incidents in her foal hood have done little to quench her thirst for adventure and desire to explore the new territory laid out before her. While she did not know her sire growing up, having been raised away from wild horses, Reyla's dam passed the wisdom of herself and Reyla's sire onto the filly. Therefore, she has an expansive knowledge and book of tricks for getting herself out of harrowing situations. When her adrenaline is roused, whether from a tense situation or a long gallop, Reyla has a tendency to be much happier and carefree, although this has gotten her in trouble for not watching what she is saying. Despite her calm persona, knowing her senses must be alert at all times to avoid capture, her young age adds naivety into the mix. Not familiar with situations in the wild just yet, Reyla is learning to apply her knowledge to this strange land, as it is nothing like she has ever faced before. Reyla has a deep-seated phobia of snakes, after a rattlesnake bite made her very ill as a foal, and of lightning. Oddly enough, she is not scared of thunder, rain, or hurricane-force winds. Nor does she bear a phobia toward water, despite the circumstances that brought her to Beqanna. However, she is afraid of crocodiles. Her favorite season is winter, as it is much easier for her to hide from those who seek to capture her.

    History

Reyla's tale begins in lands far from Beqanna, an environment a fair number of residents here wouldn't imagine existed. Brought up by a loving dam among a small herd that was kept from the wilds by trees stacked on top of one another, she always longed to head out into the wilds and perhaps meet the herd her sire runs with. The filly was highly prized her entire life in her old land, by stallions and other strange creatures alike. Her dam explained it was due to her coloring, for Reyla had one even rarer than her. Reyla's dam was always worried that another would come and take Reyla from her once she was old enough, but they ended up staying together until Reyla was four. During her foal hood, Reyla grew up with many friends in the foals that lived behind the trees. Some of the mares, standoffish as they were for the foal's unusual coloring, did not hinder her from playing with their own foals. However, Reyla could sense their distrustful eyes when they thought she wasn't looking. She began to develop negative feelings for her own well-being, wondering why others either hated her or were jealous of her. She maintains that distrust to this day. At some point, in her first six months, Reyla suffered a rattlesnake's bite, which left her very ill for quite some time. Reyla would prove to be an excellent sister, for her dam welcomed two more foals in the next years, a colt and a filly. Neither turned out the same coloring as Reyla, which grew into jealousy for her sister especially since the younger couldn't get the attention of the stallions and colts. Handled gently by the creatures that cared for their herd, Reyla's first years of life were peaceful. At times, it was tough, for Reyla had a purpose at her old home, but it gave her pride, knowing she could help. What she didn't knowing, one day, was that, when she returned home from helping the creatures, her dam would no longer be there. To this day, not knowing what happened, Reyla entered a depressive state, for her brother and dam were both gone. This left her at the mercy of her herd, for her younger sister would relentlessly tease her for her strange coloring. She eventually got more members of the herd to join in, and it got to the point where Reyla would jump the trees just to go back to the place at night she was always put in to shelter her from the wind. Roughly a month after her dam was taken away, Reyla herself was moved by the creatures and put on a collection of trees joined together so that they could float on the water. On her way to lands unknown, Reyla's hope returned, thinking she would now have a better life. Unfortunately, during the middle of their journey, a storm hit, and Reyla was left the only survivor. Reyla washed up on the shores of Beqanna following the storm, injured, but alive. She made her way to the Field in search of water and food and a place for shelter until she can figure out where she is.
