Zylah grew up in lands far beyond Beqanna's reach, but the gift she was born with sometimes leads her to believe she was always destined to journey here.

The filly was born roughly a season after her sire's death in a flash flood while helping the herd escape, and a new stallion took over in his place. His soft spot for the filly's dam left him unable to get rid of her once she was born, though he regretted it throughout Zylah's stay, a fact the filly was well aware of.

Unknown to everyone in the herd unfamiliar with magic, Zylah was born with the power to show any horse who looked into her right eye the future. The first one to experience this was her own dam, when she first examined the filly following her birth and realized her daughter was partially blind. Though startled, the mare did not reveal her fate to her newborn, and still raised her with as much love as she would later Zylah's younger brother.

Zylah herself, unknowing of the power she had, was full of life and energy, the desire to play and frolic with the other foals and yearlings who were still with the herd. Over time, however, they began to isolate the filly, since those who saw more grim futures became frightened of what Zylah's being in the herd meant for them.

Some who saw their futures tried to ignore it for the filly's sake, as they had a soft spot for her given how much she was like her sire. One day, a yearling colt and his dam, both of who had looked into her eye, and had told others of their fate, succumbed to the very future Zylah had unknowingly predicted. This caused great isolation for Zylah and her dam, though the stallion, who had not yet looked into her eye, did not punish them.

It was only when two more mares in the herd suffered the same fates they saw did the herd's fear of the filly become cemented, and by the time she was a yearling, Zylah had ostracized herself and refused to let anybody stand on her right side. In a cruel display, several of the yearlings began calling Zylah by the name of 'Jynxe', and from then on, nearly every other horse did so as well.

Once she took the necessary precautions, and made sure to stay aware, Zylah was almost welcomed back by the herd. Her dam made it easier by giving birth to a colt a year after Zylah, which gave the filly the second support system she needed. She did not allow her brother to see her right eye, however, in fear of what he would do as she loved him too much to see him treat her the way others did. Her brother did start calling her by 'Jynxe' after he heard some others do it, but Zylah came to see this as endearing as long as her brother did not know the truth.

Unfortunately, her method was not foolproof forever. This became evident when, a year after the birth of her brother, Zylah's dam succumbed to the future she had seen. Her brother, unaware along with the herd, assumed it was an accident, but Zylah put the pieces together and realized the truth. Believing it had been her fault, Zylah stayed just long enough to make sure her brother could take care of himself as either a herd member or bachelor, before leaving her home herd behind.

She traveled alone for just short of a year, eventually arriving in Beqanna one day after a storm swept her away from the mainland. Though she greatly misses her family, Zylah has hope that perhaps here, in this unknown land, she can begin anew.
