    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    History

If someone were to travel many, many thousands of miles across the sea directly north of Beqanna, they would eventually make landfall on what little is left of Malleviĝo. It was once very similar to Beqanna itself: Beautiful, mysterious, diverse and full of magic—most of it marvelous, though malevolent, and used for violent means. Century after century saw wars, famine, disease and other such devastation caused by its’ inhabitants blatant abuse of their powers until the Old Gods decided they had seen enough of the pain and misery their creations inflicted on one another. Soon, they decided on a course of action and started putting motions into play so that those who called Malleviĝo home would destroy themselves once and for all.

Of course, it would all begin with a classic trope: A Prince and A Princess from two warring tribes met, fought, accepted their differences, and fell madly in love. Their parents, of course, would hear none of it and forbid them from seeing one another. One night, noticing his daughter was nowhere to be seen, the Princess’s father went looking for her in the forest that marked the border between their land and their enemies. He found them pressed together, panting and sweating and whispering sweet nothings, and in a fit of rage The Spotted Mage tore the son of The Warlander from his daughter’s back and used his magic to dismantle The Prince bloody piece by bloody piece.

He would later send The Prince’s head back to The Warlander, starting the war that would eventually lead to their ultimate demise.

Traumatized by the incident and drained of most of her magic during an attack on her by her own father, it was the last night The Princess ever spoke to anyone in Malleviĝo ever again. She spent her days in isolation, ignoring the reports of her father’s victories and losses to The Warlander, and trying to keep her growing secret just that—a secret. She and the Prince had spent many a night together and she had fallen pregnant. Though her lover was gone, she was grateful for the child growing in her womb and quickly planned an escape.

Once her father departed, marching with his armies to the West to meet The Warlander and his legion of followers for one final battle, The Princess gathered up all the magic left in her body and used it to teleport her to Beqanna. Unbeknownst to her, The Princess and her child were the only ones to escape Malleviĝo and the wrath of the Old Gods, who swiftly turned the whole country into a wasteland.

The Princess spent the remainder of her pregnancy wandering aimlessly and simply surviving; weakened by the distance in which she’d had to cross to get to Beqanna, she never fully recovered nor gained so much as a sliver of her former powers. Labor took its toll on her abused body and The Princess died alone and nameless in a foreign country shortly after giving birth to a daughter.

A daughter that a kind stranger saw fit to name Soma.
