    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

like a house on fire we're up in flames; i'd burn here if that's what it takes

It’s come high time for her to make a decision.

Should she stay here in Loess, where Castile has made her feel so welcomed and at home? Or should she ask his permission to return to Island Resort? She has heard rumors floating on the breeze, that Wallace has already abandoned her hold on the island. She has taken it so firmly from Castile, determined that she would make a better leader than the dragon, and yet here they stand. She wonders what Castile knows, if the rage she had felt in him is still festering there, growing by the hour. She knows what it’s like to want it all to burn; she has fought with herself for many years to control it.

If we’re honest, she doesn’t even know if she wants to return to the Resort. They had laughed at her, mocked her, and cast her aside as if she had not spilled her own lifeblood into the beaches and volunteered to heal residents of their ruling kingdom. They had not cared if she tried to bring others into the sanctuary, or if she had been one of the very first residents. Instead they marked her as a traitor for supporting Castile’s claim, willingly given to him by Tiphon. There is a bitter taste in her mouth as she thinks back to the scene; if she were to return, would they even welcome her?

The child in her womb is clearly unhappy at her unpleasant thoughts – he squirms and rolls, his hooves digging into her organs and knocking the breath from her lungs. As always, she is grateful for her healing; she knows that this will be a large foal, and it will take every bit of her energy to birth him safely.

She stands near the center of the kingdom, knowing that the dragon king will find her soon enough. She likes to think of them as friends at least, and she trusts his opinion on most things – aside from stealing from her daughter’s home... but they’ll discuss that. She has quite a lot of things she wants to talk with him about, and it will best be done before this child rips its way out of her womb.
