    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    The Cure - RESULTS
    #1
One by one, they make their choice. Most choose to save another, all for their own reasons, and they are not bad reasons. It’s the easier choice though, in a way, isn’t it, to die instead of to live knowing you could have saved someone else? Perhaps in some ways it is the selfish choice, but it doesn’t matter. Still, they give their lives. Still, the faeries hearts break. Wonder chooses to drink the cure herself, choosing to watch the world die around her while she lives, sparing others from the pain she will face. It some ways, this seems like the less selfish choice. Though really, there are arguments either way. Really, there was no good choice.

And then there is Ten, who gives the the cure back to the heart of Beqanna. He is the only one who finds the third choice. He sacrifices himself, but not to save another.

The faeries are not gods, and they have no desire to ask this of their people. This is what their false god asks of them, the price that Carnage demands. Instead, the faeries have to exact the price and it will forever be their fault. It is not what they want, despite everything, despite all the trials they have put the resident of Beqanna through. It doesn’t matter what they want though. Life is never about what you want. It’s about what’s needed, what’s demanded, what’s required. Blood and sacrifice are the only things that can save them all now. What are a few lives for the greater good?

In the end though, there were never lives required, only the willingness to sacrifice. It’s enough, and finally, finally, something happens. Where Ten pours the cure into the heart, the light begins to grow. Slowly at first, but it’s something, and then faster, blindingly bright as light begins to pour from the tear in the mountain. It floods Beqanna, sweeping through the lands to deliver the cure they had all been waiting for.

The blackening trees shed the disease as easily as they shed their leaves each fall. Coughs and fevers disappear as the light touches everyone, and the black cloud that hovered over Beqanna is forced away. Only where it began, above the heart of Pangea, does the darkness remain. The plague is gone, but the black cloud blots out the sun. Below, the heart of Pangea collapses inward, leaving a crater in its place, a physical reminder of all that has happened because of their false god.

The mountain rumbles, beginning to close. The magic reaches through the portals, finding those that had stepped through, leaving its mark upon them. To Wonder, the heart whispers, “Keep your heart, dear child, you will need it but it will forever be stronger.” The magic seeps into her chest, settling on her heart, before sending her through the portal to safety. To Ten, the heart simply whispers, “Thank you,” the tendril of magic seeping into his soul before sending him too, through the portal before him.

The mountain begins to mend, earth stitching itself back together. The faeries magic flood back to them, no longer draining their very existence from Beqanna. They remain unseen, but peace follows the flood of light in Beqanna. Peace is always a fickle thing, but now it feels tangible, solid, and for now, lasting.

Welcome to Version 21: Serenity! You can view new game updates over on the chat board! Thanks to everyone who brought about the plague cure!  The plague is now gone and peace has settled over Beqanna. A crater has formed in the middle of Pangea however, and a perpetual dark cloud hovers over it.

    Quest Results

Wonder/Jenger, Sochi/Laura and Nocturne/Samshine have all earned magic of their choosing (can be used on any character). Everyone else who participated in this quest has earned a 5 space (yes, 5 space, see the Version 21 updates for details) trait of their choosing (can be used on any character). Toli, who completed all 4 other quests, will receive a 4 space trait of her choosing (to be used on any other character).

All characters from this quest receive a mark from the heart of Beqanna of their choosing, though it must somehow relate to their quest.

For offering her heart, Wonder receives “Strong Heart” (2 spaces).
Strong Heart: Users possess a very potent heart both spiritually and physically. Users have better stamina than the average horse and are able to resist magical traits that are used with malicious intent.

For giving the cure to Beqanna herself, Ten receives: “Sacrifice Embodiment” (3 space)
Sacrifice Embodiment: Users become the living physical representation of the concept of sacrifice. Whatever the user sacrifices can be used to create new powers, increase powers, to kill enemies, to resurrect someone, etc. The user cannot create without sacrificing something equal in return (i.e. to resurrect someone, the user must die).
