    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    do you ever wonder...
    ...do you ever dream?

If anyone should ask, he left the Cove to recruit new numbers. No, that sounds lame. He left the Cove to heal someone! Better though, he is skeptical that sounds any more convincing. A voice nags at the two-toned stallion. It is not safe to leave the Cove. You are being reckless! You could contract the plague. Don't you have obligations at home, Velk?

Velk could not stand to live in a bubble any longer. Whiskered muzzle stretches out to help balance as male shakes his entire chassis. When he has successfully shaken off even the slightest hint of negativity, Velk stamps his right front into the ground. This is final; he is going. He had not yet figured out where exactly but, he would know when he gets there. The summer sun is brilliant against a blue lighter than his hair color. Warmth bathes his young chassis and melts away any lingering hesitation.

Bleach-white legs carry him across the vast landscape that is Pangea. He is enthralled with her gorges. They run deep through the sandstone and he has never seen the ground behave in such a way. Velk is careful not to get too close to the edge. His striped hooves pat the baked, bare ground with each step though no impressions are left behind and, only w hint of dust rises. The young steed grows more and more curious though he would not stop here.

In the distance, his blue gaze catches sight of movement. He halts and attempts to make out what lies ahead. He sighs and then, marches forward again. Before long, the ground slopes up in a grassy knoll. When he reaches the top of the mound, a sea of billowing grasses wave at his feet. A soft smile spreads across his lips before he traipses through the tall vegetation. He grabs a mouthful while he walks before finally stopping. He is not alone. Others graze nearby though he keeps to himself. He did not realize it when he left home but what he really needs is space and time to himself. He grazes contently and, on occasion, scans the Meadow to ensure things still appear in order.
