Ruan bent his head to his girl, breathed a cool breath over her glass as he'd done countless times. She was extraordinary, an impossible creature, and he cherished her dearly. Though she likely didn't understand it, she had saved him from a deep depression that nearly drowned him after the loss of his marriage.
He pushed the thoughts away and came to a pause nearby, blue eyes bright in a dark face.
"Elysteria," he said quietly so as not to disrupt the night. Rian's head twisted to see who he'd spoken to, his little face lacking the sudden joy and playfulness that used to come over him. It wasn't Bright, though, and so he returned his vigilant search in the shadows of the forest, keeping close to Ruan's side.
"This is Rian," he said in a breath hovered over the boy's spots. Those had been his spots once, his purple and black and white. His entire coat had been transferred over to the boy to protect him. No one would dare hunt a child that looked identical to Ruan of the Taiga.
"And Polaris," he added with a soft sweep of his lips over his girl's smooth neck. Planting a soft kiss beside her ear, he straightened again, gaze on his new companion. Friend? He hoped they could be. "I have kept them too hidden away," he admitted. "It's good for them to meet someone new."
