    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

how are you still holding on?
There is simplicity in the way she answers him. The answer had been so obvious. Of course, they would fly! But it was not the type of flying he had ever had in mind. The type of flying he had first done when he and Venus had first grown the strength and master their abilities somewhat. The flying then had been free and wild, just as the flying they do now is free and wild.

    It’s exhilarating.

The games they play. The rush and adrenaline it gives him. The laughter comes out of his lips and echoes into the wind across the sky.

The simplicity of these activities makes him forget it all. The worries he had are tossed into the wind, thrown into the heavens as she calls out to him to climb higher into the sky. Titus follows after Graeme without a second thought. He didn’t need to think in these moments, not when all he needed to do was fly and whatever else came from it.

He follows her into the highest part of the sky, but she remains higher above him (as if she does this all the time). The part where he can feel the oxygen at it limits. He breathes in what air there is left up here. It makes him feel light-headed, but he is high on the rush it gives him. The way he dances on the edge of life and death—the way he shifts and hunts for the thrill.

Graeme then dives down suddenly. Titus gasps out loudly, fear rushes through him. He dives down after her, but suddenly her wings open wide and her laugh echoes and rushes on the wings of the wind into his ears. Eventually, the black winged mare lands. All the way down she grins, from ear to ear it seems.

Titus swoops down at a quick speed and lands safely and perfectly near her. Her eyes dance with joy all the while his face is filled with astonishment. “WELL,” he says sharply and loudly, “That was quite something!” It almost feels like he could do it all over again.

“You had me scared there for a second. Are you always that foolish?” He jesters and laughs without a care in the world in these moments. It seemed whatever trick Graeme had done had made him push away his glum thoughts and mood back into the darkness.

Oh but when he laughs her heart soars in her chest. She watches the gruff, the glum, fall away from his face. She watches the harsh lines soften in his face, across his body. She smiles to herself, glad to give him just this little bit of carefree in a world that made him all sharp angles and edges. She had curled her legs up close to her body, enjoying the feel steady feel of the ground below her and giving both her body and the muscles along her back a nice rest since they were back on the ground.

He lands near her, perfectly, and that same smile curls her lips as he talks. “Oh not always, but sometimes the moment just calls for it.” She says with a laugh, her eyes meeting his own easily. “If the muscles along my back weren’t screaming for a break, I would go back up there.” She says on a sigh, her gaze sliding from him to look at the sky almost longingly. “Wouldn’t it be something if you could live up there? Make a cozy little place out of the clouds and let them take you to all kind of new places.”

She rolls onto her side, stretching her neck out so she could look upwards. “Imagine. Clouds everywhere and if they happened to disperse that day, no big deal, everyone has wings! Just fly to the next one. Settle up amongst the mountain tops. Someone could use magic to make flowers and trees, use it to keep the clouds together.” Well if only they didn’t have to eat. Or drink. She laughs, shaking her head. “I don’t think it would work, but it’s fun to imagine.”

She tilts her head, shifts her neck to look at him. “Lay down, take a load off.” An amused smile curling her lips. “Use your imagination and pretend with me.” Her dark eyes finding his and resting on him easily. If she feels her heart stutter a little, seeing the way he looks now, well she doesn’t think anything of it yet.

one day it's here and then it's gone,
how are you still holding on?
He wonders what it would like to always be this carefree as Graeme is. Not a care in the world. Just simply enjoy the moment and making the best of it.

It sounded almost too good—at least for him.

There are things now that he cannot simply leave behind. Well, perhaps he could toss it all the way into the wind and disappear, but he doesn’t want to do that. Titus had found something special within Hyaline as the Head of War. It was for the first time in his life he found a sole purpose. Wolfbane had not looked him over just as his family had done. The Loessian had chosen him out of everyone to have a place among his most trusted within the kingdom.

Titus lets out another laugh again. “You are always so eager and ready to go,” he says. Every part of Graeme wanted to enjoy the world and never miss a moment. It made him smile and encouraged him to almost want to do the same. Living the life of always in the positive was addicting, but could he ever do it on his own?

The muddy stallion turns his nutmeg gaze to the sky. He carefully focuses on the clouds and imagines a life only within the sky. Just like a bird—just like his sparrow shifting siblings. “I think it would be rather marvelous,” he replies. He continues to look above into the sky, picturing everything Graeme says. It’s a perfect world. Almost too perfect, he thinks. Titus is too realistic when it comes to the world while Graeme sees beyond the reality and finds the littlest of things that bring her imagination to life.

He turns his head, eyes looking back to meet the black mare’s own gaze. A boyish grin widens across his champagne and white splashed lips. “That sounds rather nice actually,” he says while finding a place next to her. Titus makes himself comfortable quickly as he lays on his side and looks up to the clouds. “How do I imagine and pretend?” He asks jokingly once he is settled down next to her.

Titus before remembers the day Venus and he used to play all sorts of games and using their imagination. They would think of everything and anything. Each day had been fun and full of laughter. They would be exhausted and sleep soundly until it happened all again the next day.

The winged stallion smiles at the thought of the memories with Venus. He cannot help but try to relive those moments right now, so he focuses on the sky and the clouds that fill the blue sky. He quickly notices one of the clouds is oddly shaped. It looks like a bunny. “Look at that Graeme. It looks like a bunny!” He laughs softly, pointing out the bunny-shaped cloud to her. “What do you see?” He asks wondering what else the shape of the clouds could resemble.
