    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

So let's set the world on fire // Venus

It had been some weeks since the events in Ischia. In that time, Santana had traveled to Nerine to speak with his sire, in a more civilized manner, and had gone looking for his twin. He and Raul had never been apart for so long. That more than anything told him that something was amiss. Up and down and all around Ischia's islands he had flown, searching for that telltale flare of red and gold that his brother wore.

After several days of this he grew frustrated. It was as though Raul had vanished off the face of the world. He'd also been flying much more than usual, and it was beginning to wear on him. He needed a break, preferably not one near anyone he was related to. Unless it was Raul, in which case everything else would be much more doable.

Gliding over Beqanna's landscapes, a promise that had been flickering at the back of his mind surfaced. He owed someone a visit. A pretty someone, who could very likely take his mind off things for a while. Grinning at the clouds, the shimmering drakeling flexed his wings, coaxing the wind beneath them to carry him westward. Ischia often forgot the seasons. What did the tropics care for autumn and winter, except perhaps to bring on heavier rains? Autumn had not forgotten the rest of the continent.

As he traveled toward the mainland, a chill crept into the humid breeze, nipping at his skin. His breathing changed as he flew, kindling the embers within his chest to warm him. His own personal furnace. Trailing pennants of smoke, Santana entered the aerial bounds of Loess, seeking out the golden figure of a girl named Venus. It was a wide kingdom, yet still his success was already better in finding the one he sought. Amid the foothills that defined the kingdom he spotted the familiar lines of the girl who had caught his attention.

Nearing the ground, he was surprised to find that trepidation was mingling with the excitement in his breast, not to mention something that felt like indigestion. Gods... things had not gone great last time. Well. They'd started alright and then just sort of fallen downhill... damn. But it was too late to turn back now. He landed in a tussocky patch of tall grasses. With some fascination he watched as they browned and curled away from his chest, sending up little fingers of smoke. He was warmer then he realized.

Stepping hurriedly away from the flammable vegetation, the cream and white youth grinned lopsidedly at the female near by. "Hallo Venus. Hope this is an alright time to drop by." He greeted, wind-tousled forelock falling in his eyes. His sapphire and topaz gaze drifted from her to the surrounding area, taking in the unknown vistas. It was different from Ischia, that was for sure.

She was older, and had plenty of time to think about the last interaction she had with Santana. Though she finds it hard to admit herself, it was a scary situation with Tana, his mother and his father. The scariest part was that he would have attacked her had his mother not stepped in. She was scared at the thought he could harm her, half horse half dragon....but she could not take him off her mind.

Some time had passed, nearly a year since the last time she had seen Santana. She had been in Loess, laying low, recently she had rekindled whatever relationship with her parents. She tried to fill her time, but she seems to have taken to the loner life more than anything.

She was strolling through the kingdom by herself, as usual, casually passing the mountains that towered over her. The kingdom was beautiful from the ground, but it was wide open for visitors in the sky. That is exactly what she found, a visitor from the sky, but this one was familiar. The pale tobiano landed on the ground, the grass below him had decimated around him. He seemed to have better control of his powers, and she was glad to see that.

Her stomach swirled with excitement, the butterflies she had once felt came rushing back, but she couldn't let him know! He scooted closer to her, approaching with a grin Hallo Venus, hope this is an alright time to drop by. He greets her, she looks at him and she was not sure how to respond. Part of her wanted to run up and tell him she missed him, another part wanted to reach out and bite him for taking so long. She gently nods her head Yes this is a fine time. She settles for a middle ground reaction, she had to feel his intentions out further. How have you been Santana? It's been a while. She points out the obvious, a hint of irritation or taking so long. She gazed over Santana as he was now a stallion, his body had grown much more defined since the last time she saw him, an extra perk of course.

She was irritated. At him, most likely. Maybe he'd taken longer to visit than he'd meant to, but he'd had good reasons. Raul, for one. For two, he still wasn't certain she was safe around him, even with the practice Castile had set on him. The drills weren't useless. He was already feeling more confident in his abilities, more sure of his power. Still, it was like his sire had mentioned. High emotions created a loss of control, and he definitely felt things when Venus was near.

A half smile played the corner of his mouth, head bobbing agreeably as she began things politely. "I've been well enough. Patching things up with the old man, learning some new tricks." He left it at that, not wanting to get into the heartache he felt over the loss of his twin. Those were feelings that really would break his control if he gave into them. Stepping closer, his grin broadened with the awareness that he'd grown taller than her since they last met.

"It's been much longer than I'd hoped it would be. I can only ask you forgive me for that. Have you been well?" His face dipped lower as he spoke, muzzle brushing against hers lightly in greeting. Perhaps he lingered a bit longer than was strictly necessary. It had been rather a long time, after all. And if she was going to stand on manners, well, two could play at that game.

Eyes glinting with unspoken things, he stepped back to view her more fully. As much as he'd matured over the last few seasons, she had flourished. Shining like daffodils in spring, he looked for softening in her expression. Some hint that she would be open to what he wanted to suggest. The paper white curtain of his tail switched behind him, and for a moment he considered pushing it to shift into his dragon tail. Castile had said to practice, hadn't he?

Something held him back from it. Some small sense of self preservation. This was a delicate meeting. He could be delicate, probably. Tact had always been more of Raul's thing, but what the hell. No time like the present to learn

I've been well enough, Patching things up with the old man he says with a small grin. The words forced a smile on her maw that she tried so hard to remain neutral. It seemed that she was not the only one to rekindle a relationship with a parent, it was amazing to hear that he was getting along with his father that perhaps was the reason that made him snap last time they saw him. I am so glad to hear that! she says ecstatically.

He steps closer and her gaze narrows on him, what was he doing? his grin grew, and she slightly tilted her head watching his every move. It's been much longer than I'd hoped it would be the words made a shiver crawl up her spine. He missed her? So the feelings were....mutual? I can only ask that you forgive me Her eyes searched for his, damn he was good with his words. He knew what she wanted to hear, he grew closer, his muzzle ever so lightly brushes hers.

Her body swirled with emotions, new and old, she was older and he was a temptation in a different manner. She wanted to stay mad at him, or perhaps make him beg for her forgiveness, but the way he stroked her muzzle...He was gentle and she could not resist, she returns his muzzle, running her maw up to his cheek a gentle nibble. It has been quiet in Loess, I didn't think I would ever see you. her voice was gentle, she had moved, rubbing he head on his shoulder, leaning into him. Why was he so hard to stay mad at? She could not control her emotions around him, she didn't like that, but she could resist him either.

Are you still in Ischia? She wonders his whereabouts, he still smelled like the salt of Ischia...but also something completely different. Her brother Titus loved Loess, she could not ever see him leaving...but perhaps her time in this kingdom has expired. The heartache lingers to live in a kingdom that stole her from her once happy family. Why did Titus want to stay here? She had been aching to leave, and this was her chance. Not only to relocate from Loess, but to be with Tana more..
