    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

just give me that wide smile made for putting songs into the hearts of the doomed

She had lost weight again, a bit thin and undernourished. And yet her pale hair still shined in a curtain over her brilliant blue eyes. As though it may hide her, give her the gift of invisibility. Nothing could really hide her from catching the wrong eye. She always seemed in the wrong place at just the wrong time. Every good thing in her life had been taken away abruptly, short-lived. Now every blessing seemed a curse.

Her mother and aunt had been her life and suddenly they vanished without a trace, without taking her with them. Her baby sister that briefly adopted her also vanished. Lost forever, that sweet baby that almost felt like home. Then Tioga, another adopted sister of a sort. A protector for the first and only time in her life. She too, was gone.

    And then there was Bruise.
But she didn't want to think about Bruise.

Bruise was a complicated-- No, no. She wasn't thinking about him. She was walking. Or something close to it, a little quicker. Maybe a power-walk. Her head was held low, beautiful gray body slipping through the trees. She normally didn't like forests. Creepiest places. The only good thing about them was that they hid her from view. Mostly. Partly.

It typically worked better if she didn't run straight into someone, bumping his broad shoulder.

She blushed furiously and shrank down so small-- or wished she could, she so wished she could! Her wide blue eyes peered up at him from a dark face, nearly glowing in contrast. Her shoulders were tense and her mouth parted in a silent gasp. Oh god, just run. He could be nice, but how likely was that with her luck? She should definitely just run. That hadn't ended so well for her one time.

But she wasn't going to think about Bruise.

She spun on her heels and took off without a word, without a backward glance, her gait a bit unusual and awkward with the bend in her spine. And once again, that creamy silk tail waved like a white banner of surrender that would likely go unheeded.

and catch a cold heart staring at the water; babe, remember you flew

Standing at the border of Sylva and Taiga, looking out across the endless gold canopy, a malicious grin spreads across his lips.  His victims hoofbeats fade into the dense growth of the redwood forests behind him.  It was a pity she did not wish to play his games.  An ever turbulent downward spiral as they were, he still enjoyed the fear set within their eyes and dampening their soul.

Fear. It was the ultimate game...

There were changes a hoof, and so he slinked back under the fall trees -weaving between pillars and stone.  His lengthy stride quickened, dried leaves crunching under foot.  He wasn't even trying to sneak up on her, but the look upon her angelic face told a different story.  He halts abruptly with an "umph" as satan and angel collide.  "Pardon me M'Dear," he expiates, as if he was the one running into strangers.

Quickly she turns blush and even more quickly she is evading him -rushing through the forests.  He only briefly ponders why such a delicate creature is here in these woodlands.  Surely more has changed than he had realized.

With his lithe body, he weasels into the shadows and silently follows her.  Fire red eyes watching her twists amongst the trees.  With her thoughts so engaged elsewhere(enough to run straight into him) he doesn't suspect she will find him hidden within the darkness.  He awaits for her to slow enough to reappear and offer his assistance -for surely she is lost...

There was a demon on her heels, she just knew it. The look in his red eyes had been terrifying and she’d only seen it for a mere instant before she darted away again. His words followed her and yet she chose not to answer, focused solely on her own escape. That’s all that mattered.

After so many years, she couldn’t even remember how she escaped Bruise or she’d do it now. Perhaps she’d only waited for him to leave again -- Yes, that sounded right. She took her time and ran after he was away. For so long she’d kept to forests so similar to these to outrun her nightmares, always expecting to wake up to Bruise standing over her, finally caught again.

And she knew the only reason she hadn’t was due to his disinterest.

Eventually, she’d stopped running back then. And now, she’d also have to stop running from this new beast. She would get tired, but by then, maybe she would have outrun him. She hoped so. And she continued on for as long as her legs could go, as long as her breast still heaved with air and her eyes remained open. Until at last she had to stop, had to catch her breath.

She stood with her head hung, pale hair over half her face as she peered around anxiously. She didn’t see anything though. She probably lost him.
