    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Bonus Question 1:

    Ay/at Bb kbr/ky S/S ee

    Bonus Question 2:
What is (at least one) potential genotype of these dogs?

Warden was the first to submit all correct answers and wins first place. The prize is his choice of any type of naturally occurring wings and/or any type of horns, which will be genetic
Brethil was the second, and the prize is your choice of type of naturally occurring wings or any type of horns, which will be genetic
Ashhal was the third, and the prize is genetic pegasus wings and/or a genetic unicorn horn

    Thank you everyone for participating!

    1. What is phaeomelanin?
Red pigment / lack of eumelanin / any shade from white to red

    2. What is the difference between ticking and roaning?
Size/frequency of colored marks on white pattern markings

    3. What does the B locus control on dogs?
Liver pigment – dilution of eumelanin / hair and skin pigment

    4. What are the alleles on the A locus, listed from most to least dominant?
    Ay > aw > at > a
Sable > agouti > tanpoint > recessive black

    5. What is the proper way to abbreviate the Dominant Black allele when writing out a phenotype?
K or KB or Kb or K^B

    6. What is the difference between Harlequin as it is known in Great Danes and Psuedo/Herding Harlequin?
GD – merle modifier exclusive to the breed, testable as H

Herding Harlequin – longer length of SINE insertion, tests as Mh OR lighter base color of merle

    7. List two known genes that have no current genetic test?
    Progressive graying
    Intensity (re: phaeomelanin)
    Urajiro
    Northern type Domino

    Bonus Question 1:
Find a picture of a dog with the following genotype:
    Ay/at Bb kbr/ky S/S ee
Because the dog is ee, only phaeomelanin can show on the coat, so even though it is brindle, the black pigment of the stripes aren’t visible and the dog is solid red/cream

    Bonus Question 2:
What is (at least one) potential genotype of These dogs

    at/(at or a)
    B/(B or b)
(Em or E/(E or e or Em)
    ky/ky
    S/S
