    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    TEPHRA MEETING [Magnus, Amorette, ALL]
    #1
    Kromium
    Blood is Thicker than Water

The skies were painted brilliant hues of blush and bloom -much like the hibiscus that dotted the landscape- when Magnus had offered to show him a location where his voice would be heard by all Tephrans.  He gratefully followed the golden stag, making note of the stallions passion for the lands.  By the look of his marred pelt, the stallion has many battles under his belt and Krom would need someone of his caliber if ever Tephra finds itself in the midst of a war...

Upon reaching the destination, his emerald eyes scan the area.  The acoustics here would do nicely for the purpose he sought.  With a nod of his head to Magnus in thanks, he positioned himself just so.  Allowing the easiest travel of his voice to their ears, he makes his announcement. "Fellow Tephrans, please gather so I may know all who calls these lands home," his voice is deep, but with still a crisp of youth.

He waited for them to come forward from their niches within the land.  Slowly trickling like the flows of molten rock criss-crossing the land, they find him.  Some he has never met, others he recognized from the first meeting he had witnessed upon their first arrival.  He regarded each of them as they stepped forward to listen(even his sisters), and when it seemed the flow has commenced, he spoke, "Good Evening everyone.  My name is Kromium.  Some of you may remember my family and I, having come to these lands a couple years ago.  We had left as a necessity but we return now to guide Tephra into a new age." He pauses to span the crowd, "Warrick has stepped down and I will be Tephras Protector now.  I hope you will allow us to become part of your family here."  A smile graces his emerald laced lips before turning to the stallion that led him here, "Magnus, you have shown me your dedication to these lands and its people.  I would be honored for you to be Tephras General."   He allows a pause for an answer before turning his eyes back to the others.

Scanning the faces of Tephra, he recalls memory as his eyes rest on a blackish mare. He remembered seeing her within these lands during his stay here as refugees of Ischia, but a name does not surface within the web of memory.  He looked her square in the face, "I remember you...  What is your name Miss?"   His voice is kind and eyes soft as he regarded her, allowing her to reveal her namesake.  Surely someone who has been here all this time is worthy of recognition as well...

@[magnus] @[Amorette] and to any who wish to be known.  This is a semi-informative meeting to name Magnus and Amorette; General and Adviser, also to let everyone know he is stepping up to replace Warrick. <3

    howling ghosts, they reappear
in mountains that are stacked with fear

In many ways, Magnus feels as if he has lived this moment before. His mind, spread thin across so many decades, stretches out and lingers on each of the bright lights of memories. First, as a prince in the Amazons—careless and reckless. Then, as a Lord in the Chamber—dark and angry and free to indulge in the worst of himself. They pass like snapshots. Liefde asking him to be General of the Gates under his daughter Joelle’s rule. Snapshot. Joelle asking him to serve as King alongside her. Snapshot. Serving as a warrior in the Dale. Snapshot. Serving as General of the Gates under Mast. Snapshot. Petitioning for Tephra at the top of that cold mountain when Beqanna imploded unto herself. Snapshot. Taking on the mantle of leader when those who founded it with him stepped back to live their lives in private.

    Snapshot.

    Snapshot.

    Snapshot.

His body may bear the markings of these memories—the raids, the wars, the private battles—but his heart carries the worst of them. His mind nearly buckles underneath the weight of them.

It leaves him quiet and introverted, thoughtful as he walks with Kromium and then silent as he takes to his perch to call the quiet land together. It’s only when the stallion says his name that he snaps free from the quicksand of memory, his gold-flecked eyes finding the youthful face of the coltish King. He says nothing at first, tracing the face of a man he barely knows and whom has placed his hands onto the helm.

Part of him wonders how in their brief interaction Magnus could have had such an impression on the other. Part of him grows weary at the idea of taking on the responsibility once more, balking at the idea of the weight of the title and that which comes with it. And another part of him still isn’t sure how he is to feel about the youthful leader at all. It’s the latter part and his uncertainty of the man’s intentions, despite Lucrezia’s reassurances,  that growls the loudest. He nods, dipping his heavy-jawed head in agreement.

“I will always serve Tephra in whatever capacity she needs me.”

But then the Kromium is addressing his daughter Amorette and Magnus just turns to the mare, studying her own reaction to the situation and letting the meeting play out as it will.

To be honest, Amorette has been dreading this moment. Not per say to come and meet Tephra’s new king, but having to accept and face that Warrick is gone. Her heart aches for her former king and best friend, and it hurts her to imagine a life without him. She misses his presence, their playful bickering and peaceful companionship. But what hurts most is the knowledge that something must have happen.

Warrick wouldn’t just leave Tephra. Of that much Amore is sure. However, it does not change anything about the fact that Tangerine had been forced to answer Kromium’s challenge, which left to a win by default.

Still, the ebony woman does not know what to think of it. Her first reaction hadn’t been the very best, unable to not feel wronged and betrayed. So many more options, but Kromium had chosen the most drastic one, and has yet to prove his worth. But, Amore would have to admit that he showed courage, in trying to lead Tephra, when nobody else stood up. Only time could tell if it would be a success.

She comes, settling among other Tephrans, as her dark gaze is up ahead. For a moment she eyes the metallic and green king, and when her gaze lands on Magnus standing next to him, her gaze softens. She wants to settle next to her father, and decides against it, though she would have if Magnus had been standing among them. Amorette listens quietly, expression neutral.  A new age, but would it be a better one too?

His intentions seem right, even though his actions had been drastic. The young king names an experienced general, Amore has faith that her father will not disappoint in his role. He has lead Tephra before, as had Lucrezia, and the ebony woman can only hope that Kromium would value their opinion and advice, both only want the very best for Tephra, of that Amorette is sure.

What surprises her, however, is that his attention lands on her next. Her ebony and golden head lifts, her eyes holding his gaze for a moment, wondering where this might lead to. She had been Warrick’s right hand, and she hadn’t yet official re-introduced herself to Kromium. Guess that time was now. “I’m Amorette,” she simply says with a light nod of her head. Nothing more, nothing less, as she does not want to paint herself as more than she is. After all, she just is Amorette, habitant of Tephra and in service of the land and it’s residents.

Here it comes with no warning; capsize, i'm first in the water
Accepting change had not been easy for her when she was younger. She had been forced to leave the Chamber in an exchange for politics between the Deserts, to align an alliance between the two kingdoms. Like a pawn on a chess board, she filed into the role and played her part. She accepted what she was meant to do, but her heart could have never followed through.

    Change.

She could not have chosen the Chamber over the Deserts, not when those within the sandy dunes had become her family. Not when Vanquish and Yael had taken her under their guidance and provided her with love and care. Not when she had found friends and became a mother for the very first time.

    But then there was change.

The flood had come and wiped them all away. It was change that had brought her to Tephra. Change that had found her a new family and a new home. It was Tephra that had given her more chances than once. It was why she has become hopeful for the first time again.

All she can do is hope.

Lucrezia had followed Magnus and Krom. She remained behind them though, allowing the two to talk as Magnus stepped up to be a guidance to Krom. The mare was glad of his choice to give Krom a chance. Even stepping up to give the new leader guidance was more than she had expected. She was proud of her friend though.

Her eyes scan the area, watching as other Tephrans gather for the meeting that has been called. She first sees her black and gold friend. A smile lights up her golden face as she makes her way next to her. Lucrezia touches her shoulder in greeting and then turns to listen to Krom.

She listens carefully as her ears perk forward. It was a big step forward for the green and grey stallion as the new leader. The multi-colored mare knew his intentions, but she had not expect him to already be filling high positions. But she is glad to hear the offer Krom gives to her buckskin friend. In more ways he deserved the position, but it also showed that he trusted Magnus and maybe even respected him for his offer to be a helping hand.

It also surprises her too when Krom gives his attention to Amore. Her head turns with ears perking in the mare’s direction and nutmeg gaze focusing carefully on the mare and then back to Krom. What exactly did he have in mind? She can only wait as the meeting unfolds more.
    ...too close to the bottom.

    Blood is Thicker than Water

He does not forget that Lucrezia follows.  She is at the back of his mind as he thinks of those he's met and those who pledge loyalty to these lands.  Tephra is an oasis for its people and no one should own it fully.  He is claimed Its, Tephras,  protector and nothing more.  Anyone here should have just as much say, as anyone else living within its borders, but only a select few are needed to mediate the masses.  Magnus seemed loyal and trustworthy, a staple to Tephra and what has made her into the land it is.  General would suit him well and Krom is glad to hear he accepts.

Knowing that Lucerzia had recently returned to the Kingdom -from their commonland meeting- he mulls over the thought of her being designated as Adviser.  He is most certain the assignment would suit her, but when he sees the blackened ash mare of his furthest memories, the thought pauses.  The devotion she held for this land could not be overlooked, and he wonders if she has been intertwined in the roots of Tephra much deeper than could be expected by most.

His eyes are kind as he watches her shuffle uneasily under the scrutiny of their wait.  He does not know their relationships; Magnus, Amorette and Lucrezia, and just how close they all are beside just Tephra.  Maybe in time he will be able to know the finer details but today is about the land as a whole.

Her answer is simple in words as much as tone, and he can tell she is humble.  He smiles at her name and speaks it from his own tongue, "Amorette."  He nods his head with a slight pause to gather his thoughts, "Surely someone who has remained devoted to these lands as long as you have would do well as an Adviser of Tephra.  If , you so kindly would do the honors..."

His pause is only long enough to gather her response, before he turns to address them all, "I strongly believe that Tephra should belong to no one.  That we are to belong to her, serve her and her people.  Be kind, welcoming to all who wish to make her home."  His uplifted voice turns more solemn, "This had been my Mothers vision for Ischia.  That taking care of the land and her people, reigned above all else.  That greed or ambition would lose to the strength of family."  His eyes shift to regard each one of them, "I would be honored to call you all family."  His gaze lands finally on Lucrezia with a genuine smile.  This had been the vision he had seen in the meadow that day.  He hopes she knew now, his intention then were nothing but good.

@[magnus] @[Amorette] @[Lucrezia] wanted to give anyone the chance to appear that wished to respond.  If Amorette wishes to refuse the offer of Tephras Adviser feel free to say so Smile

    howling ghosts, they reappear
in mountains that are stacked with fear

Magnus remains quiet as the meeting continues to proceed and unfold around him.

This is nothing new to him. He could not count the number of times that he has sat in this exact same position, whether it was a simple gathering, an announcement or, like this, the turning of the tide. He has watched the timelapse of kingdoms and lands—the changing of power and the rise and fall of kings. In many ways, he feels as if he has seen this very moment before, following the threads of it before they occur, his heart recognizing the twists and the turns as familiar instead of alien.

Still, he gives it the respect that it deserves, the stallion fighting the restlessness that has begun to stir in his bones—the urge to move and do something beginning to build within him.

He nods  as the iron-stallion offers the position of Adviser to his adopted daughter and it is enough to bring a flicker of a smile to his lacerated lips. He does not know Kromium well enough yet, but he can at least respect the stallion for making a wise choice in respecting those who have lived here long. It is enough to keep the General’s attention and respect, the mutinous flames within him flickering quietly.

    Time would tell.

    Time would tell.

“It’s a noble vision,” he finally offers, rolling a scarred shoulder. It aligns with what he has felt in the past, both during his time with the Gates and Tephra, and he thus easily agrees to it. “Family will take time,” he doesn’t see any reason to sugarcoat the truth of it or pretend an attachment he doesn’t feel yet. For all of his flaws, he was honest to his core. “But we have it. Perhaps one day, Kromium.” Another crooked smile, the words not cruel unnecessarily. “You have a lot to prove still, and it will take time before we can fully trust you, but I am willing to give you the chance to earn it.” He looks to the horizon, to where the border blends into the sky and where the rest of Beqanna waits. “Until then, there is a lot of work for us to do.”
