    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Amongst books [Anyone]
    #1
She was working late again. The bookstore was never one of the busiest places in town since people could now get books on their phones and tablets instead. But, those who did prefer actual books always left messes in the store that she always had to pick up. What she hated the most was that people seemed incapable of putting books back where they got them from. She’s found magazines in the game section -for some reason bookstores had games now-  and fantasy books in the sci-fi section. Seriously, you can’t even mistake one for the other! It’s not like they didn’t know where the book went. People these days just seemed too lazy to put stuff up, and didn’t give a crap where they put the books.

However, she wasn’t one to complain about her job. It was small, but paid well enough to help her barely get buy. Luckily her boss was understanding enough to consider all the work she had to do with college, and made her work a part-time job at the bookstore. She was grateful to her boss for being so kind and understanding; this was the only place she was able to get a job because of it. All the other jobs she had didn’t last long. She was such a klutz and magnet for disaster that she couldn’t do a thing right. She’d always accidentally drop dishes or spill drinks as a waitress, or accidentally scan a product twice and get the prices wrong as a cashier. It wasn’t as if she didn’t know how to do that stuff; she was just easily frightened by nature, which always caused disaster. The bookstore, however, had very few people to be around, and putting books in their rightful places and even unpacking new releases and setting them out was  easy enough. She wasn’t perfect at this job either, but she did much better than the rest. Besides, she quite liked it here. The bookstore always seemed to have a calming and quiet atmosphere, leaving her free to her thoughts.

A loud clap of thunder made her glance towards the front door briefly. It had been raining all day, and it only got worse by turning into a pouring storm. If it didn’t let up soon she’d have to stay even later until it let up. She had an umbrella, but the storm was too much for that dinky thing; it’d get blown away. And she didn’t have a car yet, so walking home in that was out of the question. She wouldn’t be stuck there all night, would she? There was one or two other employees working late as well who might be able to give her a ride, but she didn’t want to trouble them. Besides, they weren’t too fond of her because she was being paid full despite the fact she had a part-time job, so she doubted they’d even be willing to help. She was the only one her boss made exceptions for, so she could understand their frustration and jealousy. She wasn’t too fond of being treated so differently, so special, but she couldn’t bite the hand that feeds her.

She sighed lightly as she slid a new released book onto a shelf. What to do, what to do...
