    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

we're on the road to ruin,
and we're starting at the end --

Summer in Hyaline was lovely, as was to be expected. Even though the days were hot, the lake was cool and clear, which Chryseis couldn’t get enough of, much to her mothers dismay. Briseis was fairly convinced that her daughter was put on this earth with the sole intention of seeing how quickly she could get back out. Every time she turned around she was climbing a ledge, jumping a ditch, peering in some animals burrow, or just generally seeing how many near-heart attacks she could elicit. It was never intentional, of course. Chryseis was not a calculating creature, she just hadn’t developed the ability to think her actions through.

    Such as tonight.

With it being sweltering during the day, the little blue roan filly found that most of her energy was going to waste sleeping in the cooler parts of the night. At this moment, she was nestled in the soft grass at her mother’s feet, feigning a peaceful, angelic sleep. A single ear was trained on the mare that stood over her, listening to the rhythm of her breathing. She knew she only had a small window where she could sneak off. Her mother was a restless sleeper, and the only sign that she had reached a deep sleep was the quiet, strained sounds she made when trapped in a nightmare. The nightmares didn’t last long, and afterward Briseis always awoke with a start. She needed to make sure she was gone before that happened. Patiently, she waited,  and once it was clear that Briseis was asleep, the young filly slowly collected her too-long legs beneath her, and cautiously she began to creep away.

Once safely away, she sprinted, swallowing the gleeful giggle that threatened to spill out of her mouth. Beneath the star-dotted sky she ran, deftly dodging the other sleeping bodies. She knows the other children of Hyaline were most likely asleep, but she doesn’t need them for where she is going.  On a previous travel with her mother she had seen a path that led through the trees up the mountainside; her curiosity had been piqued ever since. If all went as planned, she would arrive safely back by morning, and only be grounded until she was three.

    Tähti
we are stars wrapped in skin

Never sated with a simple answer, never stopping to train until she was the very best at something. This was what Scorch's determination had set an example of almost two years ago now, and the little black filly turned out about as stubborn as her mentor.

Which meant, that today, at physically 8 months of age (due to being reborn in winter), she flew. She flew again, taking her manoeuvrability through the mountain kingdom to way higher levels, both literally and figuratively. She flew at daytime, until it was too hot and she would rest in a cool dark cave, and then would come out near evening to fly at twilight, night, and dawn. The only thing she loved to do in between was splash in to the lake. Okay, and eat. Eating was so time consuming, but it had to be done.

Right now she had found a small meadow high upon a mountain, which she only had to share with the mountain goats. She ate as quickly as she could without getting stomach pains later, and when she'd had her fill, she looked over the edge. The only giveaway from below would be that she stood out against the eternal snow and moonlight from behind her, and she spotted something small moving - without being followed - below rather quickly.

She spread her wings to glide down, softly, so as not to wake anyone but also not to spook the girl. She was young; probably a foal from last spring. The metallic golden blaze was a dead giveaway as to who she had approached though. "Hello Chryseis!" She probably would not remember her nosing around when she was born, being so young, but Tähti had remembered her name eventually.

@[Chryseis] Assuming Briseis would have told her her name but nothing else much. (:

She was so preoccupied with her jailbreak that she almost didn’t notice the winged filly as she glided down from above. But she hears the soft rustling of wings, and tucking her small hindquarters beneath her, she slides to a stop. ”Tahti!” She exclaims gleefully. She recognizes the older filly from the day she was born, although the memory was a little blurry. Her mother had told her the names of the residents whenever she had asked for them, though, and she had always been intrigued by Tahti’s wings. Something about her had always stuck to her, and she would be the perfect partner for this adventure.

She turns to prance merrily up to the filly’s side, staring at her wings with a noticeable look of admiration and longing. ”Were you born with your wings? Are you part bird?” The questions were genuine, for the birds were the only other creatures she ever saw flying. But just as quickly as she had locked onto the wings, her mind races back to the task at hand. ”Where do you think that path up ahead leads to?” She nods her head in the direction of a cluster of trees, and in the middle of them, surrounded by overgrown brush, is a faded, hardly visible worn area in the ground. Clearly, something at one point had followed it, but it wasn’t one of the well-traveled areas of Hyaline. ”I wanted to follow it the other day, but my mom wouldn’t let me.” her dark brown eyes glimmer with excitement, her mind already brimming with the multiple possibilities of where it could lead. A family of deer? A den of foxes? Someplace completely secret and hidden that no one else in Hyaline knew anything about?

When she lands, the younger filly had already recognized her (pfft, she was so happy to have remembered her name in time) and was prancing in place. The black woman in the girl's body admired her, being so young and carefree. But who said she could not extend that carefree-ness of her own?

Several questions were landed upon her now, while she folded the wings she had gotten from her mother - but clearly the roan girl did not know of this. She nodded at the questions. "Yes, and, maybe?" she winked. But already Chryseis was distracted, and so, she looked at the path. It was pretty steep and, without her wings Tähti honestly might not have followed it - or maybe she would have; she grinned at the other dark-coloured girl, remembering her adventure just over the border into Nerine where she hadn't been supposed to go at all. "Probably something very scary! Come on!" And with the baby girl in tow, she raced up the mountain path. It smelled like goat to be honest, and she did not think that if Chryseis were walking slowly, she would make it all the way up, and so she challenged her to run.
