    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Trekori

i'm freezing, it's not winter yet
    but my fingers and toes
    are shivering beneath these sheets
    and i feel so alone
i don't want to die, i want to sleep

Summer has set in, and if I thought it could get any warmer on these islands, I was wrong. For all of the fuss Brennen made about this being a paradise compared to his old home, I can't help but grumble about the heat. My wings constantly leave sweat-stains on my barrel, and I can't very well walk around with them outstretched like a buffoon now can I?

    Grumble grumble grumble.

Huffing, I decide to take action against the wetness beneath my appendages. Shaking out my mane, I shove off from the lagoon I'd been resting near at a trot. When the trees thin out, I stretch my wings and leap into the air. Ah, to fly. My sour mood lifts almost immediately when the sharp wind cools my sides, and for some time, I am content to frequent the clouds, surveying Ischia and occasionally glancing to the border to ensure no trespassers are lurking. Might as well do my duty while I'm up here playing around, right?

But then, someone does catch my gaze, and my curiosity peaks. I have yet to meet any of the Ischians (brothers or not) except for Brennen, Takei, and Andulvar - and if Brennen is serious about this whole mutiny business, I'm sure he must be bringing in more men. Perhaps the little ant-like figure I have spotted down below is one of them; and as my body has more than cooled, I figure, why not get acquainted.

I settle on to the earth easily, folding my wings into my sides. My eyes study the horse, but I don't wait long before piping out a greeting. "Hey." My voice cracks at the word, and I die a thousand internal deaths; but no sense in accentuating the curse of teenagehood with a prolonged silence in its wake. "I'm Trekori, are you from here?"

    Kromium ~ Karat
    Blood is Thicker than Water

Where one went the other was surely not far.  Today is no different as they move, as one, along the brush line and out of the mid-summer heat.  It had been nearly a week since they had returned home.  Karat was walking better as her ribs began to heal.  To exercise they went for daily walks.  Krom escorting her, as mother tended kingdom duties and father tightened the borders patrol.  Kroms' emerald ears swiveled for the slightest of misplaced sounds.

His newly metallic body reflected the sun's rays and that must have been what caught the strangers eye from such a height.  As the twins moved along, they didn't noticed the nearing wing beats.  It was a common sound of both the avian species that flocked here and equines.  Their parents had wings as well so it was not an uncommon noise.  Definitely not misplaced.

Karat is only a step ahead of him, when he sees a golden figure watching them.  Without hesitation he leaps forward to stop his sister's movement closer.  Coming between her and the stranger, he narrows his eyes upon the winged horse.  Soon enough a greeting is given but Kroms' nerves do not settle.  Not until he finds something similar within the other, age.

Karat looks from behind her personal guard.  Noting the size of the newcomer is matched by their own.  She smiles with a gentle roll of her eyes.  Reaching her muzzle to her brothers smooth frame, "It's ok Krom.  He's our age." She attempts to reassure him and it seems to work slightly.  Lowering her head, she bends around the front of her brothers neck.  Lavender limbs carrying her towards the stranger.  As she does he reveals his name, so Karat does the same, "Hello! I'm Karat." She says happily before looking to her brother, who is at her heels, "This is my brother Kromium." He didn't look to be anxious to introduce himself, so she does the honors.

Kroms emerald eyes look to his sister as he comes to stand beside her.  Then they turn to Trekori as he answers his question, "Yes we live here.  We were born here..." Ever since that day in Sylva he had become more cautious.  More suspicious and more protective.  Karat had also changed.  The once entergetic child had become more level headed.  Maybe they were changes for the better.  He inquires, "What brings you to Ischia?" He doesn't mean to come off blunt and his sister is quick to interject, "Most visitors come for the scenery but stay because we are a united kingdom.  One big family..." She is grinning from ear to ear as she nudges Kroms' neck softly.  Turning back to the golden colt, she offers a tour, "Have you had time to explore much, Trekori?  If you'd like, we can show you some spots that are easily missed unless you know the island very well like we do." Excited to possibly have met a new friend, she waits for his answer...

What I'd at first believed to be one horse turns out to be two, though they are small in stature and make up about half a horse each - though so do I, to be fair. The colt leaps in front of his sister upon my approach, and my ears flick, slightly baffled at this show of valor in one's own home - and I can tell that it's their home because they smell like they belong here. Trying out a quizzical smile at the twins' antics, I settle and wait for them to figure their shit out, ruffling my wings absently.

Without warning though, my eyes catch on the girl standing just behind her brother, and something inside of me squeezes all funny; those stupid teenage hormones again, and even though I'm not of age, it's like there's some weird animal part of me that can't help but to think about, well, sex. And no no no it's not just that, I mean, she is really pretty - pretty like Wishbone had been when she showed me the sea-squirrels - pretty like I want her to come out from hiding behind her brother so that I can actually get to know her...

As if having read my thoughts, the little bay presses soothing words to her brother's skin and swings herself beneath him to come jauntily up towards me. Feeling a little light-headed at her pretty smile and the way her voice sounds as she says her name (Karat, Karat, Karat, I'll kill myself if I forget it), I smile my own smile a little dumbly, and barely register as she introduces her twin. "It's nice to meet you," I say eagerly, stepping closer to her with a blink of my purple eyes. At the last second, I look to Krom too, managing to salvage the phrase to include them both.

Flustered. Wh-why am I so flustered?

Shaking my head a little to try and clear it of the warm fuzziness that has invaded my usually clear, cool head, I perk my ears to listen to what the colt has to say in regards to their living situation. Born here... Yes, that makes sense. But the boy goes on to ask me a strange kind of question, Karat quickly following up with an explanation for why he'd asked. Interesting; surely they know about the brotherhood takeover. And even then if they didn't, I've been living here for nearly a year - strange that they can't smell that on me, that I belong here and all.

"Oh, I've actually been living here in Ischia since about last fall," comes my voice, a little steadier now that I have something more concrete than the way Karat's eyes glimmer and shine to focus on. "I'm one of the Brothers under Brennen!" I speak the words with an upturn in my voice, hoping to put a positive spin on what had probably ruined their lives for a hot second. Ouch; not exactly how you want to lead with the girl you have a crush on. I hurry past the point, eager to take her up on her offer to explore.

"I've tried to find all the places I can, but I bet you could show me even more," I say, more to Karat than to Krom, my smile widening - but then it falters, and my ears lay back sadly. "Unless you were just on your way out..." My eyes, which had dropped to the earth, lift back up to them hopefully. "I heard at the meeting that lots of your family left Ischia... But I don't think they really had to. And even if they did, you don't have to go, too." A loud gulp swallows from my throat as I speak one last time, a final attempt to make them - her - stay.

"At least, I'd love to have you show me around before you go. There isn't anyone else here my age to go on adventures with..."

@[Neo.n] WOW. I did NOT expect this to be how Kori would want to react :| Enjoy.

    Kromium ~ Karat
    Blood is Thicker than Water

Karat is stepping towards the colt and Krom matches her pace.  He was weary still of the golden pegasus.  Emerald eyes searching for even the slightest hint of ill intentions.  His nares flare to sift through a foreign scent mixed among the sea salt breeze.  When the boy says he's been here a while, Kroms brow cocks in confusion. Had they been gone that long?  He is about to speak until his twin starts her rambling.

Karat listens with a flick of her lavender ears forwards.  Curious to know the colt was not a stranger to Ischia.  She says kindly, "I guess our paths just hadnt crossed yet." A smile finds her lips to explain more, "Our mother took us to the playground to meet our....ummm..." Eyes dart to Krom quickly, "Our half brother." Her head turns slightly as her focus turns back to Trekori.  The sting along her side was still present but she was unsure if she should bring the events up. "A lot happened and we were gone... longer than expected... But it's nice to meet you now," her smile turns to awe as she looks upon the colts face. "Your horn is glowing!! It's so pretty," another step is taken closer to the winged colt as her lavender eyes fixate upon it.  Trekori seems flustered just a tad and she realizes she may have been too forward.  Her cheeks blush the slightest as her head turns away slightly.

His next statement confuses them both.  They know of Brennen as the general of Ischia and assume the boy means he's part of the Ischia army.  It isn't until Trekoris comment of a meeting and Ischians leaving that Krom steps forward. "What are you talking about leaving? Who left?" Emerald eyes turn to his sister who looks at him stunned at this info.

Suddenly there is heavied hoofbeats coming from down the shoreline.  Their mother, a furious sight of emerald and earth, comes up to them hastily. Come on kids... We are leaving.  Karats eyes look up to her mother in question, "We just got home. Where are we going?" She stands still in confusion as mother is storming off towards the land bridge.  Krom glances at his sister and turns to follow.

She remains still for a moment.  Eyes looking to Trekori as an apology comes from her lips, "Uh, sorry.  I... I guess I have to go." Lavender ears flatten in saddness as her gaze falls to the sands.  A whispered goodbye lingers before she starts off after her family...

@[Trekori] I guess to make timeline sense they should leave.  If he visits Tephra they should reconnect Smile
