    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Under the old oak tree [Thana]

sweet as sugar, hard as ice.
if you hurt me once, i'll kill you twice.

The dark bitch is still exploring the new land. So far nothing quite catches her attention long enough for her to take pause. Well, except for sweet sparkling Bowie; his attentions are not ones that she can easily escape; and if she could ever admit it, would never want to if given the chance. She shakes out her mane ridding her mind of thought and heaviness. The trip to search for another one of her old friends had ended in yet another failure. No one had heard from the leopard king in quite a while. Some of them didn’t even recognize his name. Her facial features crinkle in disgust. The shortness of memory that plagued this land. Plagues you don’t you mean? The voice in her mind whispers on a gentle breeze causing her to flick her ears back in irritation.

Emerald gaze flits from one object to another, a jagged misshapen rock planted next to the snarled roots of a rough barked tree. It shades her hide from glinting black in the sun. Pine needles and twigs rot on the ground under hoof; signs of a new season about to approach; still wet and musky with the heat of this season. She has such limited time here and it’s a bitter pill she can’t bring herself to swallow. Each day is one day less that she has. Patience will not do anything for her any longer. Nerine has no interest in things that once were. Or at least, that is what it seems to her. They still cling to this new weaker idea that males and females can live as equals.

She sneezes at this. As if, they dream of a utopia that will never exist. Given the chance; every single one of those males will dominate and take over. They just don’t see it yet, but Hestia doesn’t have the time to wait around for the generation that would be oppressed and realize just how much of an error they had made in allowing males equal rights in the kingdom. It won’t be this generation, the destruction of Beqanna is still fresh in the back of their minds keeping those males that are power hungry in check.

Thus she has left Nerine once more searching aimlessly for something. Something that she doesn’t fully understand of yet. Maybe others that, like herself, know the dangers of giving males power. Her children are gone, her mate is gone, her old friends have passed on; all she can really say she has is Bowie. Her one tether to this world. Not even her murderer is around. How do you do anything when you are a ghost amongst strangers. The river roars in the background thrusting its way forward; carving a path for itself from the land. A path that she currently follows, waiting for an idea or something to strike her about how to fix this strange predicament.
