These treks have taught him to be honest with himself, though. He has learned that it is his fear of weakness that drives him up the slippery incline even as the slush of half-melted snow makes the journey more perilous. Loose rocks threaten to make him lose his footing several times and he stumbles, slamming his knees several times.

But he simply sucks in a hissing breath between his teeth and carries on. The fire in his heart refuses to extinguish or surrender even as the icy wind begins to collect across his brows and along the edges of his eyelashes. His breath leaves him in delicate white puffs of air that disappear in the frigid mountain breeze. It almost hurts to inhale, up here, but what other choice does he have? Vulgaris snorts softly at his own childish complaining.

When he arrives near the peak, he pauses a moment to catch his breath search the clouds for some sign that someone is listening. Perhaps they have always heard him, he suspects, but they have elected not to entertain his requests. Still, they had been kind enough to restore his youth so that he might continue this adventure in life. Not having aching joints had meant one less thing for Leliana to worry about while he tried to keep up with their children.

“You have been infinitely kind to me, in my life. All my children are strong and beautiful. My body is as powerful as ever,” he calls out to anyone or no one at all. He feels guilty to keep pestering them but the roaring inferno of his soul demands it. “My curse has been broken but.. I want to replace it with a blessing instead. I want to rise from my ashes. I told Leliana I would die for her and she asked me to live so.. I want to do just that.”

He keeps those sage green eyes trained on the clouds, brows furrowed as he remains hopeful.

In this shook-up, twisted world, I'm gradually growing transparent and vanishing
Don’t look for me; don't look at me

Basically, Vulgaris used to have the equus viperus curse because his bloodline is full of people who used to be evil and cruel. Larva didn't learn his lesson so it passed to Vul and Shiya. Vul sacrificed himself in order to pay for his crimes against the people he loved most and Leliana resurrected him, telling him she wanted him to live for their family instead, so these threads are about him learning how to be good. I would like for him to have phoenix shifting because perfectly symbolizes his rising from the ashes of his old life.

Why? Sometimes because their supplicants are not worthy when they come, or they simply are not ready, or the timing is wrong. Sometimes simply because they do not feel like it. Cruel, perhaps, but it is the truth nonetheless. The fairies live to serve Beqanna, and not necessarily it’s resident. They serve the will of Beqanna herself, not of mortals.

This time, she appears though, to the newly crowned king of Tephra. He starts with thanking them, after all, and she is always apt to be kinder to those who recognize and appreciate that they are not the sole source of triumph in their own lives.

“We will give you the blessing you seek, but first,” she says, appearing in a swirl of snow and purple magic. The air around her is almost warm, and it extends slightly in his direction as well. “You must pay such kindness forward before. You must burn before you can rise. Go and do four good deeds for four others. Come back once you have completed your task.” Then, as quickly as she comes, she disappears, leaving him to climb back down the mountain.

You rolled a 2 and will be granted a quest. You must do four good deeds for four other horses (one good deed per horse). You may use the NPC account, but you must have a different thread for each good deed. Until the quest is complete, Vulgaris will always feel like at least one part of his body is on fire - livable, but unpleasant.
