Pretty butterfly, you keep on passing by - Abysm - Ilma - 05-24-2018

Ilma
And there's a lesson waiting to be learned
the firestarters always get the burns
and the good guys never get the girl

Amidst the childbirth and nursing daze, so much happened in Hyaline that the white mare fails to keep up. There's multiple new smells in the air; smells of young, newborn foals, of new residents, all horses she doesn't really know. She knows Kagerus must have recruited one or more, and she learns to recognize the scent of Solace's twins, but still there's some more she can't really place.

Today she stumbles upon one such scents; suddenly she knows what's been bothering her about this one. But that cannot be - she said she left him with his father and, though Ilma didn't understand why she simply couldn't be his mother, that was a better alternative than what the white pegasus mare had feared. But is certainly deserves investigation and so, she follows it.

When she stumbles upon the yearling colt, she knows that is must be him. "Abysm?" she asks him, walking up to the young man - it's too bad she'd never met him as a foal, but maybe she can make up to it now. It wasn't really something that could be helped back then, his mother being somewhat scared of him maybe, he'd never made it into Hyaline, and Ilma wasn't in the position to leave. "It's good to finally meet you," she offers him with a warm smile. She's left her own colt around here somewhere, too - but he knew how to find her, should he awake. He's still too young for anything else than the obvious eat-play-sleep cycle, and with Hyaline full of watchful eyes these days, she didn't worry about Llowell too much.

“Abysm?”
a whisper.

“ABYSM!”
a shout.

The champagne-and-cream colt is jarred from the dreamlands by the softness of her voice. Everything about her is soft though from the moment his eyes land on her. Pale fur that must be soft to the touch. Feathers soft and combed by the air.

Even her eyes are soft in their look and he cannot imagine her ever baring her teeth at someone. Not like how he has always imagined his mother or who she looks now. Kagerus has none of this mare’s softness about her.

Has she ever screamed?
Abysm can only wonder. He is a dream manipulator like his mother and his own dreams have been interrupted. She is the interruption, pale as moon and bone in his dark brooding dreamscape as he skulks in one of his teenage moods. Worse, he does not know her so how does she know him?

It makes him suspicious of course. His face is closed off. Shut right like a window that refuses to budge open even though his eyes are fever-bright from dreaming. It hangs like a wet ready residue in the corners of his eyes as he looks at her.

“How do you know who I am?” had he meant it to sound so accusatory? Probably not as his head ducks from a hot rush of shame and he stares pointedly at his hooves. Duh. She knows who he is because his mother has most likely blabbed about him coming to find her and continuing to lurk about Hyaline.

“Sorry,” he mumbles; still not quite able to look at her from beneath his petulant sulk.

@[Ilma] sorry he’s being a brat lol ❤️

Ilma

In fact, Ilma has only screamed once in her life in Beqanna. Not even the man who'd intruded on her without consent; no, she'd been so scared and confused at even his want to do so that it had been over before she could. But she'd outed one panicked scream at Svedka, after; simply for being male and touching her unexpectedly. Not that she had ever minded him touching her before or after that one time, it was simply the ghost of her earlier fear of men. But he's kind to her, and she never will again scream at him in her lifetime, or so she hopes.

Some would say the colt looks more like his father - but not knowing Rapt nearly as much as Kag, Ilma sees that he is more like his mother than he might suspect, himself. His patches for one, mimic hers, in size as well as, roughly, placement on his body. Of course, the champagne colour is clearly not similar to hers, but the shape of his head is, the characteristic Arabian lines showing predominantly. As well as of course, the familiarity in his scent, just like Svedka and Solace have a similarity in smell. But above everything - he can be as rash as she, as he is now, and she can only smile which undoubtedly would add to his suspicion and confusion.

She knows she'll have to clear the air soon, so she nods at him, ignoring the accusatory tone he outs when he ducks his head in shame and says sorry. Clearly he'd been brought up better than that, so she shakes her head at him. "Don't be. You have every right to ask. I am Ilma, and I've been a friend of your mother's for a little longer than that you exist. I'm sorry to say I've only known you as the enlargement of her belly." She smiles a bit crookedly. "She told us your name, later, but she never brought you here." Her voice sounds sadder than she feels at the moment, regretting that she'd never pushed her friend about introducing her family to Hyaline. And honestly, Kagerus still hadn't introduced him to her after he'd arrived, so busy as she seemed to be with her own family lately that she'd almost ignored her friend.

She couldn't really blame her dreamer friend, of course. The white woman had not been so outgoing herself either, really not letting in on most horses surrounding her, with maybe the one exception. But she's making a better effort, now that her son has been born. "You look like your mother, and have her ways about you." she adds. There had been no doubt that he would be Abysm, and he'd just confirmed her suspicion after all.

@[abysm] don't worry about it, she knows how to deal with Kag, too Tongue
