god make me pay like the devil i am; any - Maugrim - 04-10-2017

Though Maugrim enjoys being secluded in the darkness and dampness of the forest floor, trying to hide among the underbrush and dirt like a serpent – there is one thing that draws him out into the open.

The young colt is nearly chest deep in the water of the still pond, calm and comfortable as the water periodically laps over his back as he walks absentmindedly on soft hooves. The muck at the bottom does not bother him and neither does the dark depths of the pond. It goes deeper, but he dare not go any further – at least not yet. He’s able to stare down at his watery reflection, rippling gently as he stirs the water. From a distance, it appears that the dark green and lavender splashed colt was merely enjoying a summertime swim.

But for Maugrim, it was so much more.

His affinity for water was nearly instantaneous with his birth. He was always drawn to it for reasons he hadn’t really known when he was just a few days old. But as he grew, month by month, he began to realize that the water was not only something that soothed him – but it was something that could be controlled by him.

And how he loved to be in control.

For such a young boy, he never felt weak. He knew his power, his ability to manipulate the water around him to do his bidding. Maugrim’s most recent hobby was bringing a strand of water from its source and dragging small animals (tiny birds, lizards and other useless things) back into its depths. He liked the bubbles.

Today, though, he was not quite bored enough to resort to his normal playthings. This was a new pond in a new place, and he was experimenting with the new depths. The water churns around him rapidly, though the colt is barely moving. There is a slight grin on his face (though it would easily disappear, like usual) as he watches, concentrating. The water bubbles and froths furiously, as if being controlled by the colt was causing the liquid itself to be angry. Maugrim’s smile falters as he furrows his brow, focusing. A spot in the water domes upwards, as if something were about to break its surface. He tries to will the water to stretch out in an arm from the pond, but it doesn’t get very far before it falls back with a dull plop.

Angry, the water bubbles as his face twists with rage. For a moment the water seems to try and get away from him, pushing it away with his mind.

Grumbling, Maugrim returns to shore with a heavy walk. Emerging from the water, he doesn’t attempt to shake off the droplets. Instead he lets the water hang on his coat, weighing him down as he stands on the shoreline, the water running in rivulets down his small chest and body, pooling around his tiny hooves. His plan now was to head back into the darkness of the forest and remain unseen until he was willing to try again.

Leaving Pangea was a new endeavor for her.  She had been born from the oceans waves there and had yet to venture further.  Always remaining under the watch of her twin brother he didn't allow her much room to wander off.  Today though she slipped away quickly and quietly to explore...

As she walked she thought and before long she was lost in it.  Thoughts of her brother and the only other equine she had met in the wastelands of their home.  The stench of sea salt and death always abundant.  More than that of actual foilage.  The land seemed to feed off the suffering of others.  It suited her brother but she had yet to indulge in that way of life...

Not realizing how far she'd actually traveled but it must have been a ways.  The sun was lower in the sky's and her throat had dried.  She had always been drawn to water and could easily sense its presence.  Granite form moved effortlessly across the terrain towards the scent of it.  Soon she came upon the shores of a small pond.  It's surface rippled as she approached then fell quiet.  Cautiously she neared thinking maybe she had disturbed something within it's confines...

She had rested at it's banks for a moment more and when nothing stirred she lowered her muzzle to drink the cool refreshing liquid.  It soothed her throat and filled her belly.  Her ears and eyes scanning for danger as she sipped.  The walk had been long and Pangea did not offer much of a source like this.  It's ponds typically scum.  Her thoughts brought her forelimbs to step forward into the waters as hind limbs followed.  Adjusting her weight upon each hoof as she sank slightly into the mucky bottom.  Just as she settled a dark figure was seen lingering.  She turned to face whatever it was, if it should approach at least her back wasn't to it...

The colt always wishes to go by unnoticed, to become the shadows that he so desperately hides within. He knows that at some times it cannot be helped; the bright, pearlescent patches on his otherwise dark green coat gave him away in most situations. However, most often times Maugrim would choose to ignore any social opportunities with others, even if it meant simply walking by a curious foal or a concerned mare. He didn’t like their pity – it wasn’t needed and offers no benefit to him. He’d rather be alone, hidden beneath the thick and tangled brush of a forest or the wet and slick darkness of a cave, all the while watching with his hauntingly green eyes.

Maugrim knew he was taking a risk going to the water on such a beautiful autumn day, but as the boy’s powers became stronger, he could not feel at peace without being near the clear, smooth surface that he was beginning to control so easily. He likes the way the water twists and turns beneath his will, obeying without hesitation or resistance. He wishes that the others that try to meet him could be as malleable as his precious water, but he found that he unfortunately lacks the power to separate bone and muscle at his will.

Malicious thoughts teem in his young mind, though they are brought short by the unwanted feeling of eyes on him. Pearlescent lips peel back to reveal a snarl before he’s even turned around to see what stares at him so blatantly. When his piercing green eyes rests on a young girl not a few strides from him, his green (almost black) ears find their way backwards to hide among a short and tattered lilac mane. He wishes to use the water to draw the girl into the depths of the pond behind her, tightening and pressing against her slender legs and delicate ribcage until breath no longer could be inhaled into her lungs.

Of course, he is nowhere near strong enough yet to force the water to do such horrendous bidding, so the colt settles for an angry scowl to show his displeasure at her presence and that she had spotted him. “What?” he hisses, his voice like metal against the cool, autumn air.

“What are you looking at?!”

Life in Pangea was simple.  There were no laws, no rules, no restrictions.  Your mission was quite easy.  Bring forth blood thirsty soldiers or kill.  Simple... Right?  Hardly.  To find such a soul that harbored that kind of evil was far and few in between.  To find prey... Well that was even harder.  Her brother had that natural instinct, to kill.  He had a soft spot though for her.  His moldable sister, kind hearted and compliant.  She wished to please him and he relished in that.  Though today she had strayed from his side but she grew bored.  She lacked purposed.  Maybe recruiting was her calling... Or perhaps luring...

As the cool water lapped against her knees she watched the colt vigilantly.  Noting his unique color.  Her brother had similar markings but not of these hues.  Only a yearling herself she couldn't fend off much of an attack if one should come but he wasn't an adult so her chances were growing.  Studying him for a moment more she hadn't moved.  His lips curled as he snarled at her What?!  Taken aback by the sharp words her eyes shifted and fell upon the water.  Her heart raced in her chest as her instincts took hold.  Taking a deep breath she tried to settle it...

Piercing gaze was felt upon her as he stood there.  She looked up slightly to see if he had moved closer or not.  He hadn't so she was put to ease that he didn't want to fight.  "I didn't mean to bother you,"  her words too soft and kind.  She looked away again as she noticed droplets of water rising from the pond.  They seemed to gather with purpose around her.  Growing and morphing together at her sides.  An occasional stray falling upon her dark coat.  Nares flared as a deep exhale was expelled from her chest in confusion.  Her neck arched as her eyes danced from one drop to the next, following them from their source to the form they were taking by her sides.  Thoughts wondered inquisitively about what was happening around her...

She had nearly forgotten about the colt watching her from the shoreline.  Glancing back in his direction to see his expression and to confirm that she wasn't seeing things.  She could feel the cool water gathered at her sides.  As if they had become part of her.  "What's happening?" The question asked loud enough to be heard but not directed to him for an answer.  Cause honestly how would he know...

He can’t stand it. He can’t stand when he feels their eyes on him, those judgmental stares that so hungrily await his next move, and his next mistake. He wonders if he can manipulate the water with such force that a blow to their eyes would have enough pressure to rip them from their sockets. He makes a note to try this eventually.

The scowl doesn’t leave his face, permanently spread across pearlescent lips like a hungry jackal. How dare she interrupts him. How dare she even look at him and think that she was worthy of his time. The colt throws his head up, chin high as he tries to look down on her, breathing heavily as he decides what to do next. He nearly focuses just long enough to begin to influence the water behind her, particularly imagining what it would look like to watch her be dragged deeper into the water she so serenely stands in. How naïve, thinking that the water was safe and unchanging in a small pond like this. His eyes glimmer with his violent intent.

Her voice is calm and cool against his ears. Oh why did she have to be polite, too? It bothered him all the more. He groans and cannot help but roll his eyes with distaste, losing all concentration and unable to bend the water the way he wanted. Instead, she may only feel a sudden pull against her slight legs and then nothing. He was not strong enough yet to be able to focus on two things at once. “Nobody means to do anything,” he spits, lips still split apart in a snarl.

Then, something very interesting catches his eye (lucky her). He furrows his brow in confusion, snorting curiously as he watches water lift from the pond. The confusion then melts away and pure rage replaces it. The colt takes long and giant leaps to get closer to her, flabbergasted and appalled that what was happening was not his doing. Suddenly, in an instant, whether be on her own volition or not, she had taken away the one thing that made him feel special. She was not allowed to have the same power as him.

“Stop doing that!” he screams as he lunges into the water, eyes mad with fury. “No, it’s mine! You’re not meant to have it!” Maugrim’s bared teeth bite furiously at the water at her withers, trying to undo what has now become apart of her. He isn’t even sure if his biting is working to make the water stop, and he certainly isn’t even sure if his teeth were accidentally (maybe not so accidentally, then) making contact with her flesh. He didn’t care. The water was his and only his. She was not allowed to have it.

[ooc] please let me know if you don't like him trying to bite at her, please feel free to make it so he misses and isn't able to get at her skin at all. he's just an angry little thing and can't help it. :3

It only makes sense that a child born of the water would possess a water gift.  Still watching the droplets gather at her sides in amusement.  The way they swirl about her and gather into formation.  She can feel the weight upon her shoulders as they grow out from her sides.  Experimenting slightly she tests her control of them.  Bringing them forwards than back to make out their purpose...

Her muse was short lived though as words were hissed to her.  Ebony tipped ears pressed tightly to her skull.  Dark eyes glared upon him as he shouted and bounded forwards.  Thrashing through the waters, snarling and hissing hatred at her.  His?  How was the water his?  Her eyes narrowed upon him as he reached for her.  Canines snapping at the water upon her.  The water parted at his attempted bites but filled back in upon the disruption leaving.  It was all she had to keep from snickering.  He wanted it back huh?... "Here... Take it!" as she spoke she flung the wing of water into his face.  Drenching the boy in 'his water'...

Looking down upon his soaked body she chuckled in her accomplishment.  She was kind typically but she wasn't no push over.  Waiting for his next hasty move if he should have one.  A snark grin settled across her ebony dipped lips...

RE: god make me pay like the devil i am; any - Maugrim - 04-19-2017

The ferocity and rage bubbles within him like lava spewing from a volcano’s opening. It blinds him, like it always did, as he thrashes in the water furiously. It’s all he’s ever known, even at his young age. It’s something he can’t control, like he can with water. It’s nowhere and then suddenly it is there, awake and alive, boiling over and spilling everywhere until there’s nothing left. Maugrim’s unexplainable rage (could it be explained, though?) and his unhealthy obsession with the water blinds him from any kind of logic or fairness – the idea that she, too, could have a trait similar to his did not even cross his mind. The water was his and his alone in his small, broken mind.

Suddenly, in the midst of the thrashing and shouting, her voice rises. He feels the force of water against him, shocked and angered that she was capable of moving what he would come to realize were ‘wings’. He takes a leap backwards as the water enters his nose, burning him terribly. She enrages him all the more as he stands knee deep in the pond, water running down in rivulets across his patched body, ribcage inflating with every breath he takes. Ears still pressed backwards against his neck and his head low, he growls at her: “You don’t deserve those.” His dark eyes study the wings at her sides with malice, wishing that he was strong enough to start a whirlpool that would engulf her and her stupid wings forever at the bottom of the lake. Instead (since he knew that a feat such as that was not something he could possibly do at his age and strength), he falls deadly silent, concentrates for a moment, and sends a surge of water towards her – repaying her splash with his own.

He breathes heavily as he stares at her with a hooded brow. Though the burst of fury has subsided, hate and disgust were still apparent on his face. “You didn’t even work to get them,” he spits, recalling the hours and hours he had labored to be able to even cause the faintest ripple in a puddle. His mouth twists into an unflattering scowl. To think, the water merely gave her those wings, gifted her with a token to wear at all times while he had to work and beg and sway the water to even bend his way.

Watching him as he huffed and puffed in fury unsettled her a bit.  Why was such a young foal so angry?  Her cocky expression had softened quickly as she pined over what she had just done.  Throwing the water in his face was kind of childish.  Even if he sort of deserved it.  "I'm sorry," was all she could manage to say at the moment...

Suddenly and without warning the droplets fell like a spring rain back into the pond.  She watched as they fell apart and regrouped together.  Once again it was just her.  Proving she had just as little control over her gift as he had.  Maybe it had been the threat of danger that brought on their formation at her sides...

"You are right.  I don't deserve them." Her gaze fell in disappointment.  Her coat dampened by the drops that had splashed upon her.  Some still clinging to her ebony tassels as she flicked them free.  She knew of traits but was, until the latest happenings, unaware she even possessed one.  Her curiousity growing of what it could be for.  Maybe she would try again... Another time...

Dark eyes lifted and returned to look at the colt.  "My name's Azazelle by the way.  You like the water too?"  Where she lived bordered the seas and she often was found wading in the waves, "You'd like Pangea. There is an entire ocean." Her ears flickered to the sides as she spoke.  Thoughts that maybe the colt was looking for a home entered her mind.  He was strong enough to survive Pangea that she was sure...

RE: god make me pay like the devil i am; any - Maugrim - 04-22-2017

He is angry because he’s known nothing else. He’s angry and doesn’t even understand what anger is, or that his anger is unprovoked and illogical. There is no outlet for him, or at least no outlet that he has found satisfactory to give him any kind of relief from the white-hot rage that boils in his belly. It is mostly stagnant, brought up only by minor inconveniences that seem to trigger such an eruption that it blinds him until it has run out completely, only to become still once again; then begins to bubble once more.

The only type of release that Maugrim has found has been, of course, his ability to manipulate water. However, even as his power grows and his skill becomes more impeccable, there is a darkness that haunts the edges of his mind that hungers for more. It simmers in the depths of his soul, untraceable at the moment, but lingers in wait for its perfect escape. Even the young boy has no idea that it exists; but all it will take is a single taste, a small morsel of power and control – for it to overwhelm and consume him.

He watches her, still breathless from his rampage. He hopes that he’s hurt her physically, that she’ll be wary of him and maybe even frightened of his presence. His dark eyes watch as the water that formed as wings against her sides fall thoughtlessly back to the lake, sending quiet ripples towards him.  She apologizes and his face changes – though not in the way that one would expect (or in the way she may have hoped). His brows rise curiously, though the look on his face was no longer disgust and rage, but pride. Of course she was sorry. Of course she didn’t understand. Of course he was right.

And there in that fleeting moment as he stood chest-high in the stillness of the lake, Maugrim experiences manipulation for the first time that was not of water – and was successful. He could not describe the feeling it gave him, for he had never felt it before. Prideful, dominant, powerful… He runs his tongue over his lips, tasting not only water on them but also a hunger for something her unhappiness satiates momentarily. Worthless, he thinks to himself as he stares at her, proud of his ability to humble the filly in front of him and bring her down. The feeling her sadness gave him is the only thing that keeps him in her presence, wondering curiously if he could keep this feeling forever – or maybe even inflict more harm to heighten the feeling it gave him.

Maugrim thrusts his muzzle upwards, attempting to stare down at her from his angle. “It’s mine,” he says, his voice grave, in reply to her comment about enjoying the water. He leaves it at that.

She is useful for two reasons. One: the affect of her apologetic and sorrowful stare has not yet waned from him and his mind growls hungrily for more; he takes a step or two closer to her. He wonders if the feeling will fade. The thought terrifies him for a moment, and he realizes that he must make her stay here longer. She mentions a place, Pangea, though he flippantly dismisses the name. He doesn’t care. But then, in the same breath, she gives him more. Ocean.

His mind works quickly (he had never seen the ocean) and without skipping a beat, a smile finds his lips. It appears genuine, though the intent behind it was much more wicked than he seems. “Take me there.” He even pricks his ears towards her, harmlessly staring at her with wide eyes. Inwardly, he groans in protest. But he cannot (will not) lose the feeling that her submissive state gave him and nor will he refuse to be led to where he could practice his skill.

Intense eyes were felt upon her.  Like a sixth sense she could feel it burning at her hide.  Her eyes had long left his glare upon her as they shifted nervously.  Mindless chatter spilling from her lips as she wasn't sure what else to do.  The deeper of the pond at her back and him in front of her cut off any escape route.  Even though she was twice his age and size she felt helpless to escape.  As she spoke of her homeland his glare lightened but with demanding force wished her to lead him there.  There was nothing great about her homeland... Not to her at least.  Besides the ocean it was pretty bland.  Full of torture and turmoil.  Wicked creatures of all shapes and sizes.  He'd fit in just fine...

Her eyes lifted to meet his as she spoke softly, "Sure, If you wish." Taking a cautious step forward, then another.  His rage had subsided for the moment and she wasn't about to step on any hooves.  She headed west.  The journey long.  Through the forests of Tagia and Sylva, across the mountain range that separated the bright canopies from the dust and ash...
