Jacque does not often like to talk of his history, as it pains him to remember the origins of his scar. He used to be the apprentice healer of a large and powerful herd, he had been born and raised there, and it was his home. The herd had a history of minor skirmishes over land with other tribes, but, when Jacque was five, they engaged in a major battle. All those battle-fit were sent to fight, including the healer of the herd, Jacque's mentor. Jacque's herd were victorious, but during the battle, many were killed, including the lead stallion and the healer. Jacque was expected to be promoted to healer, but the new lead stallion was jealous of Jacque’s healing ability, as all he could do was fight, and banished Jacque from the herd. When Jacque tried to reason with the lead stallion to allow him to stay, his pleas were rejected and, as Jacque lowered his head in defeat and began to walk away, the stallion dealt a punishing blow with his hind legs to Jacque’s face, bruising his eye and popping a blood vessel near to it which blinded him permanently in that eye. About six months later, whilst he was wandering and increasing his knowledge of the wild healing herbs, the eye had completely dried up and he was able to painlessly remove it by rubbing his head against a tree with rough bark. It took several more years before he stumbled upon the kingdom of the falls in Beqanna.
