His mother Talulah had somewhat of a mid-life crisis due to yet another unexplained absence of her lover, Tiphon. She ran off and into the Gates, breaking her usually hard rule of respecting borders. Jason was the first horse she ran into, and he comforted her in her time of need with Eldrian as the result the next spring. She hid away and gave birth in the Gates, and when a mare passed by (Emmerly) she decided to keep the boy a secret from her own Dalean family and have Emmerly raise him. Talulah visits him now and again under diplomatic pretenses.
