Najya was raised in a small village on the very outskirts of the desert. She lived peacefully with her parents and younger sister until the leader of their lands came searching for a mate and consort. The king had a reputation as a cruel, brutal man known for disposing of his consorts when they displeased him. Najya, fearing for the others in her village, volunteered to become his mate. The king - Shahan - accepted, and she was taken to the king's residence in the foothills of the mountains. Najya did not fear Shahan, unlike his other failed consorts, and over time began to win the coldhearted stallion over with her vivid storytelling and thirst for knowledge. Shahan, more misunderstood than cruel, grew to love Najya and she grew to love him. However, it was not meant to be as the horses long banished to live on the mountains had organized and stormed the kingdom. Shahan's last gift to Najya was her life, getting her out of the kingdom via a secret passage. He made her promise to run, and she did until she found herself in a strange place called Helovia.

Helovia was nothing like her homeland - the lands rich with magic and equines of all sort. Najya soon found herself living amongst those in the Dragon's Throat - a desert kingdom in the southernmost parts of Helovia. In Helovia, Najya learned to defend herself and became a skilled healer. She was gifted with an egg which eventually hatched until her faithful companion, Amal. The little dragon was a piece of her soul she never even knew she had been missing. Najya found herself embroiled in a conflict in Helovia far beyond her understanding - battles between Gods and immortals. Najya also gave birth to her only children, twins Clementine and Melita, in the lull between the battles. However, the children's father seemed to disappear when the conflict escalated. Najya devoted herself to her children and protecting them from the conflict that raged on. When the war finally came to its final moments, Najya used all of her strength and all of her magic to shield her children on their way to safety. This emotional and physical toll rendered Najya unconscious, and she only awoke in the aftermath of the battle - her children's fate unknown.

Najya couldn't bring herself to stay in the ruins of Helovia, the grief of what had been lost was just too profound. So, along with Amal, she again found herself wandering until the pair stumbled across Beqanna.
